"A humpbacked man straightened up after Master Li Hongzhi had patted the deformed back five times"; and "a patient suffered from an end- stage uremia quickly recovered after reciting Master Li Hongzhi's scriptures," etc, such fairy tales spread among Falun Gong practitioners. You and I "ordinary people" may consider these stories absurd, but obsessed Falun Gong followers never suspect of the legends and call them "miraculous" stories.
Authors of these stories fall into two categories: (a) Master Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong, who cooks up stories to demonstrate that he is omnipotent; (b) Falun Gong key members, who purposely do so to show that they are veteran practitioners, and have cultivated into high levels.
There are two ways of spreading these stories: Li Hongzhi's "scriptures" and Falun Gong websites are the primary channels; and the practitioners' Gong meetings for discussion and exchange of experiences are the secondary ones.
A lot of "miraculous" stories have been published on Minghui Net and other Falun Gong websites. And the stories are fabricated with the following three purposes. Firstly, they serve as a means for Li Hongzhi to exercise spiritual control over his followers. Li purposely spreads these stories among practitioners, making them fully devote to the worship of him and his Falun Gong so that they will accept and practice Falun Gong teachings without hesitation, and serve the cult whole-heartedly. Secondly, they are employed to cheat those who do not know the facts. Thirdly, they are used to threat those who hold different views from Falun Gong or intimidate Falun Gong followers who are skeptical.
The so-called "miracles" can be divided into the following six groups.
Group 1. Li Hongzhi apotheosizes himself and his Falun Gong
●Li's four supernatural functions. In The Introduction to Li Hongzhicompiled by Falun Gong organization, Li Hongzhi claims, he reached great Enlightenment at the age of eight and he possesses supernatural powers: the power of teleportation, the power of becoming invisible, the power of making people unable to move and the power of controlling people with thoughts.
● Li destroyed "a snake spirit" with his "melting Gong." Li Hongzhi said: "The master's master of that man was originally a snake spirit which took the shape of man. But having a spirit's nature, he was evil-minded and used to make trouble to me in the shape of a giant snake. I was so annoyed that I caught hold of it in my hands and used a powerful magic called 'Melting Gong' to turn its lower part into water. Its upper part fled in panic." (Zhuan Falun)
● Li cured a humpbacked man by patting him five times. On June 21, 1992, Li Hongzhi lectured at Beijing Construction Materials Auditorium: "A man was so deformed that he looked like carrying a big cloth-wrapper on his back, it caused him great hurt. He came in and asked me for help. I looked at him and decided to do something. So I stopped my lecture and told the audience: 'Please excuse me for a moment, I'll help this man first.' I patted the man on his back five times, and then gave him a punching press. The man straightened up then and there."
● Li could cure illness by just looking at the patient. On February 25, 2006, Li boasted to followers at Los Angles: "Many students saw before that when I did healings for ordinary people, I didn't need to lift a finger. I would just take a look at the person and he was cured. When I looked at him I was emitting certain things; I could emit supernormal powers from any part of my body. His ailment would be cured immediately over there upon my emitting those things."
● Li left mankind a ladder to heaven.In 1996, while lecturing at Sydney Fa Conference, Li said: "I have done something nobody did in the past, and I have opened a big door. I have done something even greater. That is, I have made public all the principles of cultivation practice as well as the elements for completing cultivation. In addition, I have talked about it very systematically. This is why the gods at very high levels have said, 'You have left man a ladder to heaven – Zhuan Falun.'"
● Li could "remake" any species on the earth, and even "create a new earth."He said: "What I do today is for the purpose of rectifying humankind and the substances of the entire earth – I can do all of this." He continued: "How can the earth be preserved? Just as with your practice of cultivation, as your bodies are being transformed, so is the new earth being made." (Lecture at the First Conference in North America)
● Li had numerous Fashen. While lecturing at Sydney Fa Conference, Li also claimed: "I have numerous Fashen who look the same as me. They are in another dimension, so of course they can become large or small. They can become very large or very small. Their wisdom is completely opened with the same power of Fa like that of a Buddha. The main body is here with me, and they have the ability to do things independently. They will look after you, protect you, help you transform Gong, and do certain things. In fact, they are the embodiment of my wisdom. Therefore, I am able to safeguard you…The majority of my Fashen are wearing the Buddha's robes with blue hair, the curly blue hair. It is very blue, bright jade blue."
● When a practitioner cultivated into an extremely high level, a big eye could develop over top half of his face.Li describes in his book Zhuan Falun, the large eye resembles that of a fly. "When a person gets to an extremely high level, after he's gone beyond Triple-World-Law cultivation, an eye that's like a compound eye appears. To be more specific, a large eye develops over the whole top half of his face, and there are countless small eyes in it. Some Great Enlightened Beings at really high levels have cultivated an incredible number of eyes, and they're all over their faces. All of their eyes see out of that one large eye, they can see whatever they want to, and when they look they see all levels at once."
● Falun Gong practitioners could levitate off ground and fly to heaven.In May 1998, lecturing at a Fa Conference in Europe, Li said: "Yet I also want to bring humankind a magnificent scene at the time of your Consummation. My thought is this: Have all Dafa disciples, regardless of whether they need bodies or not, elevate their bodies into the sky and then fly away; those who don't need bodies will have their bodies go through Light-Transformation in the air…If you succeed in cultivating into a great god or a great Buddha, will you be capable of doing that? You will be more than capable. You will be able to hold the earth in your palm with no effort at all, let alone save your family members."
Li Hongzhi has made many other bizarre remarks to show that his Gong powers "reached the peak of perfection" and he "saw the origin of mankind, foresaw the development and future of the humankind."
●All ethnicities in the world incarnated in China. In March 2002, Li lectured in the United States: "All ethnicities in the world incarnated in China–and this includes persons in every country. Other than the large number of beings from higher realms that came after I began to teach the Fa in recent times, the people in each country incarnated in China at some point in history. No matter which country you're in, you were first Chinese on this earth, because your first incarnation was there...For example, today's Americans were people of the Great Ming dynasty...England was the Great Tang, France was the Great Qing, Italy was the Yuan, Australia was the Xia, Russia was the Zhou, Sweden was the Northern Song, Taiwan was the Southern Song, and Japan was the Sui. In those times, people from each dynasty left China and reincarnated to places that didn't have the countries that are there now – they were still rugged wilderness. So most people reincarnated all over the world in a scattered way, and only returned to their places in recent times. People from one dynasty went one place, while people from another dynasty went to another place–that's how it went."
● There were humanoids inside grains of sand.In September 1997, Li lectured in the United States: "The people inside grains of sand are exactly the same as us humans – there are black-skinned people, white-skinned people, and yellow-skinned people. And in the future you'll find it odd that their clothing isn't too much different from that of our ancient people."
● There were humanoids under oceans. "There are humanoids on the ocean floor, several kinds. Some of them resemble us, and some are rather different. Some have gills, while some are human from the waist up and fish from the waist down; others have human legs with upper bodies that are fish." (Zhuan Falun Vol.Ⅱ)
● The moon was created by prehistoric man. "The moon was created by prehistoric man, and its interior is hollow." (Zhuan Falun Vol.Ⅱ)
Group 2. Falun Gong guarantees a cure for all diseases.
In the "miraculous" stories, Li Hongzhi and his Falun Gong are described to have the power of eliminating the most serious and complicated illnesses. These diseases include cancer, dementia, limb damages, blindness, deaf, dumb, paralysis, humpback, bandy legs, and vegetable (a human being), etc.
On October 13, 2006, the Minghui Net published an article, claiming that a patient who suffered from mid-staged lymphoma recovered after he read the book Zhuan Falun for only two months.
On January 7, 2008, the Minghui claimed, a patient who suffered from AIDS fully recovered after three years Falun Gong practice.
Group 3. Falun Gong blesses and protects people
According to the "miraculous" stories, Falun Gong blesses people and can protect people against dangers such as collision or overturn of vehicles, electric shock, falling off a building, poisoning, fast, conflagration and flood, etc.
On October 13, 2006, the Minghui claimed in an article that, a 50 years old lady who died of reaching life span "came back into life" 20 days after her death because she promised to follow Falun Gong.
On December 16, 2007, the Minghui Net published a storied that, a drowned girl "came back into life" three hours after her death because her grandmother prayed to Master Li Hongzhi.
Group 4. Magical powers of Falun Gong
The "miraculous" stories suggest that, by practicing Falun Gong, many magical powers can be obtained which are as follows: Making cell phone calls without a battery; crossing walls like an X-ray; levitating off ground and going with the wind; opening of celestial eyes; animals understanding Falun Dafa; a couple having a child without sexual life; an old lady's having her periods again after the removal of her uterus...and so on so forth.
On October 25, 2003, the Minghui Net published an article claiming that, faulty TV sets and broken water pumps automatically performed original functions because their owners had been devoted to Falun Gong.
Group 5. Rejuvenation of Falun Gong practitioners
On the Minghui Net, stories such as "a withered tree brings forth flowers" and "an old lady getting on for seventy restarts her period" are often posted.
On September 27, 2003, the Minghui Net published an article, claiming that an old lady at the age of 75 became youthful as the result of silently reading "Falun Dafa is good" every day.
On May 25, 2005, the Minghui Net published another article, claiming that an old lady at the age of 85 restarted her period after silently reading "Falun Dafa is good" for two months and half and her right-angled humpback turned straight.
Group 6. Curses at people and organizations that do not agree with Falun Gong
Cursing people is one of the major tasks of Falun Gong practitioners. On May 19, 2001, Li Hongzhi thought up a method at Canada Fa Conference to eliminate the "evil" Party and Chinese government – collectively "sending forth righteous thoughts" (or curse). It was said that by shouting slogans such as "the Fa rectifies the Cosmos; the Evil is completely eliminated (Fa Zheng Qian Kun, Xie E Quan Mie)" and "the Fa rectifies Heaven and Earth; immediate retribution in this lifetime (Fa Zheng Tian Di, Xian Shi Xian Bao)," etc, the "evils" would be eliminated or turned into watery blood.
Almost every day, the Minghui Net publishes articles on the subject of retribution. According to its stories, retribution will definitely overtake those who set against Falun Gong in the end. Examples are listed on the Net: The vice president of a court died of retribution; the secretary of a municipal Party committee was getting paid back for the bad things he had done, etc.
Features of the "miraculous" stories.Most stories published on the Minghui Net and those fabricated by Li Hongzhi can be traced to the same origin – the initiator is Master Li himself. Since all people adopt pseudonyms and no specific whereabouts are mentioned, the "miraculous" stories hardly stand close scrutiny nor can they be verified by modern science.
