New York Chinese Associations Alliance was launching fundraising for Sichuan quake victims in front of Flushing Library. Many people present were greatly angered by Falun Gong's disturbance and bitterly denounced Falun Gong's shameless behaviors. Sinovision.net gave a live recording of the whole scene.
It was reported by Zhang Suping at Sinovision.net that on May 17th, Falun Gong practitioners gathered near Flushing Library. The local Chinese people were strongly angry and hundreds of Chinese people spontaneously gathered together to confront and deter Falun Gong. With the crying of "Come on, China" and other encouraging slogans, they were indignant and excited. The local police had the middle street blocked and managed to prevent the conflict from escalating.
Mr. Zhu Lichuang, secretary general of New York Chinese Associations Alliance, has witnessed the event and he recalled that at about half past 12 o'clock that day, some members of New York Chinese Associations Alliance got to Flushing Library and raised funds for relieving quake-hit areas in China. But at that time scores of Falun Gong practitioners have gathered nearby and yelled that China government embezzled the donation and the donation was not used for relief work.
Mr. Zhu continued that his colleagues disdained to respond to those Falun Gong practitioners and just ignored them. But all the Chinese passers-by were greatly angered and protested against those Falun Gong practitioners. Soon at least several hundreds of Chinese gathered on the other side of the street and confronted Falun Gong.
They held that Sichuan was stricken with strong quake and China was fighting against the disaster. All Chinese should do something to help the relief work. So it is unbearable that Falun Gong spread such rumors to deter fundraising for quake victims.
NO. 109 substation of New York police office sent about 15 policemen to maintain order on the spot. Some protective hurdles were set up between the two parties. According to a policeman, Falun Gong had applied for the gathering ahead of time, so some policemen had arrived at 12 o'clock. After three hours' confrontation, the two parties gradually dropped away at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
