"I hadn't felt well in my belly for several months last year, both my mother and my spouse said I should go to hospital for a physical examination, but I didn't agree with them, for I knew it was caused by the elimination of karma … It came once again on the second day, and I dealt with it by sending forth righteous thoughts while lying on bed for a rest at night. For my revelation was apparently not a thorough one, on the third day, things became worse. My belly couldn't stand even a gentle touch; I couldn't eat anything, had no strength to go to toilet and it almost killed me at even a small movement. Later on, my entire body ached so much that I felt difficult to talk and then even to breathe. I kept coughing and yawning; I ground my teeth due to the pain and had to rub my belly with both hands. At night, it still hurt very much when I rest on my sides, on back, or with a pillow behind. I tried to relieve the pain by pressing tightly against the belly with hands and found a lump inside."[2]
"One day, I had a fever and my body ached so much that I tumbled on bed, sweating a lot. I thought that a long time had passed, but according to the watch, I have endured for only ten minutes. I told myself to hold it for one more minute, and then another minute after that; for I knew Master was with me there. So I kept telling myself: Master, I can do this! … I kept reciting the teaching of Fa-rectification of Master: 'Fa will rectify the universe, and all evils will be eliminated'. I believed that the power of these words would help me get rid of the Illness Karma, so heavy a burden on me like a big mountain."[3]
"After I finished doing morning exercises on the thirteenth day of the first lunar month and right after I sent forth six righteous thoughts, I felt acute aches in both waist and belly, accompanied by vomit and diarrhea. The first thought coming into my mind was: this is the persecution of the evil force. So I asked for the help of Master immediately … I kept sending forth righteous thoughts, although I quickly became bed-ridden and couldn't move around, yet I kept practicing it and around eleven in noon, I called two practitioners living in my neighborhood, asking them to help me in sending forth righteous thoughts."[4]
"A dozen of days before February 23, my spouse suffered hematemesis occasionally but we didn't pay much attention to it at first by discarding it as the elimination of karma. But on the night of February 23, my spouse had acute pain in chest and couldn't fall into asleep due to cough for three days after that. At that time, we realized that it was the persecution of the Old Force and started to fight against it by sending forth righteous thoughts, for that's the correct road arranged for us by Master. My spouse became increasingly thin due to the pain and our colleagues said we should go to hospital. They knew we were practitioners and worried for us because they didn't know the law of Fa. But no matter what they said, my spouse never did it."[5]
"After half a year of practice, I started to purify my body and my lips had hadulcer for several months. Others said I had suffered from excessive internal heat, but I knew it was because of physical purification and I didn't feel much pains. When the illness karma was in the form of fever, I sneezed and then realized that this was a way to get rid of the evil things in my body. Master helped me to keep good things and to get rid of bad things. One day, I had a fever. I thought to myself that I didn't get the truth and the fever would surely be gone soon. I usually had those rice-like things on my head and I knew that was the secretion of those bad things in my body, my head itched so much but I knew the illness karma on my head would soon be eliminated. One time, I had this bad pain of trigeminal, I had fever and felt very cold, but I told myself: I could manage all the tests and all the difficulties."[6]
"One of my teeth ached all of a sudden this April and the sending forth righteous thoughts just couldn't help a bit; I couldn't fall into asleep because of the ache… There's nothing I could do to stop the ache. Since sending forth righteous thoughts could do nothing about it, I started to turn inward for help and since I couldn't fall asleep, I got up to learn Dafa or to practice it more."[7]
Falun Gong practitioners help their beloved ones fighting disease by way of "sending out Gong (or qi)," instead of seeking medical help.
Falun Gong published on its official website on August 4, 2006, an article titled On Fighting against the Arrangement of Old Force: a Case Study of the Persecution on Child. According to the article, a kid had a high fever, the mother, a Falun Gong practitioner, practiced Falun Gong in hopes of helping the kid fighting against the fever instead of seeking medical help. In the end, her 20-month-old baby "had four convulsions from the midnight till the noon of the next day."[8]
On February 12, 2008, Minghui published an article New Practitioners Participating in Group Practice Pass Illness Karma, which said: "On the afternoon of November 17, 2007, Xiaoge, my niece, said she didn't feel well and wanted to lie down for a rest. Then she said she wanted to go to toilet but fell on the floor when she arrived at the door. We put her on the bed but she started to stare blankly in front of her shortly after that, both legs becoming stiff. It seemed to us that she was going to die, but then several practitioners and I talked to her, be it illness karma or the arrangement of the Old Force or the persecution of the Evil Force, we shouldn't accept it, we should believe in Master and ask for his help, and Xiaoge would be just fine." Then the practitioners started to practice it in hopes of "treating Xiaoge," but still she "passed out" for several times.[9]
On June 23, 2008, according to A Story of a Six-Year-Old Practitioner Doudou, "Doudou had to pass the test of illness karma after we came to Korea. She had high fever, her body ached, she had a sore throat and her heart ached too. She cried when she couldn't stand it anymore, but still she's been strong as always." Both her parents are practitioners, so instead of sending the kid to hospital for professional help, they insisted that the girl should "go to take part in the demonstration held on the second day."[10]
So these practitioners really believe that to practice Falun Gong will help them to cure the diseases, so they'd rather put up with the acute pains or let the baby suffer four convulsions in half a day than seek any professional help. In this sense, to practice Falun Gong not only brings pains to themselves and their families but also put their lives and the lives of their families at risk.
In comparison with the practitioners and their children mentioned above, many other Falun Gong practitioners ended up more miserably. Since they couldn't stand the great pains caused by illness and, to make things worse, didn't dare to seek medical help, the only choice they'd got is to put an end to all the sufferings by committing suicide.
A practitioner in Yancheng City, Jiangsu province, refused to go to hospital and finally committed suicide by cutting open an artery so as to get away from all the pains; in one of his pocket, there's medicine that he didn't dare to take when he's alive.[11]
In January 1997, Liu Yazhen, a retired worker of Zhaoyuan County Speed-Setting Engine Plant in Heilongjiang province, felt that her legs ached so much that she went to see a doctor. She was finally diagnosed as psychoneurosis. After practicing Falun Gong, Liu refused to take any medicine her family bought for her, telling them that: "Master doesn't want me to take any medicine and he promises to help me when it's necessary." Shortly after Liu refused to take medicine, the illness became increasingly severe and she started to doubt Falun Gong. She talked to the counselor but was told that this was because Master was eliminating Karma for her and that she would be punished and there would be severe consequence if she stopped practicing. With such a painful and lingering disease, Liu couldn't bear it any longer and, leaving her last will to the family, drowned herself in a river on the midnight of June 29. In the letter Liu said: "To practice Falun Gong makes me become a vegetable and Master didn't come to me when I fell ill. I can't bear it anymore so I decide to leave you."[12]
The fact behind all these tragedies is that the practitioners worry that to get medical help will affect their "Cultivation" and will result in being eliminated by Li Hongzhi, for Li has no mercy on those violating the teachings of Falun Gong.
Mr. Li said, "Since we're guiding you down the true path, during Triple-World-Law cultivation we're always purifying, purifying, and purifying your body for you, all the way until it's completely transformed into high-energy matter. But you're still bringing all that black stuff onto your body – how are you going to cultivate? That's karma! You won't be able to cultivate one bit."[13]
"There's no way you'd succeed at true cultivation without my Law Bodies' protection – the moment you stepped outside, maybe your life would be at risk."[14]
"My Law bodies are aware of everything. Whatever you think about, they're aware of it, and they can do anything."[15]
"While I just sit here I can see things in Beijing, things in the United States, or things on the other side of the world."[16]
"When a life is truly weeded out it is horrific."[17]
And, Li Hongzhi promises that: if practitioners can bear the sufferings caused by diseases, their Cultivation will march on to a higher level.
While threatening those who dare to violate his teachings, Li Hongzhi greatly encourages the practitioners sticking strictly to his teachings.
"How much Dafa disciples put in is how much they'll get out. Even an average, ordinary being will, after bearing responsibility for the good things and the bad things, be rendered in the future everything he accumulated."[18]
"In fact, cultivation is about coming here to suffer, not coming here to be protected in the human world. When one studies Dafa he will be protected, but cultivating Dafa also requires one to endure suffering."[19]
"The principles of cultivators and those of ordinary people are opposite. Human beings believe that a life of comfort is a good thing, while Dafa disciples believe that having everything be easy is a bad thing when it comes to their improvement and that discomfort is conducive to improvement."[20]
"Human beings think it's a bad thing to experience hardships. But suffering hardships can reduce an ordinary person's karma and sins. When a person endures a lot of hardship during his lifetime, he will receive blessings in his next life."[21]
"Dafa disciples all know that enduring hardship eliminates karma, and that it furthermore furnishes opportunities to improve oneself...When you are able...make it through the right way, you will have overcome that test, your level will have been raised, your realm will have elevated, and your gong will have risen, right?"[22]
