Rumors Fabricated by Falun Gong

1. “Sujiatun Concentration Camp Incident”

On March 8, 2006, the Falun Gong organization outside Mainland China deliberately proposed a lurid rumor, the so-called “Sujiatun Concentration Camp Incident.” The rumor stated that in Sujiatun District of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, there was a concentration camp surrounded by a three meters high wall with wire entanglements on the top, where there were more than 6,000 Falun Gong practitioners detained, and two thirds of them were already dead; their bodies were burned in the cremator of the concentration camp after their organs were harvested, which were sold illegally to domestic and foreign markets. Later on, Falun Gong changed its story, claiming that the camp was located in the Liaoning Center for Treatment of Thrombus Using TMC and Western Medicine (which was generally called Sujiatun Thrombus Hospital). Photos of the hospital and the so-called “cremator” were also publicized on the website by Falun Gong. On March 20, 2006, Falun Gong dished out a so-called “witness” named Anne, declared that she worked in the hospital, and her husband was a cerebral surgeon who personally took part in “harvesting corneas and other organs” of all the detainees since 2001. On March 31, Falun Gong trotted out another “witness” – “a veteran military surgeon,” claiming that the detainees were transferred to the basement of Sujiatun Thrombus Hospital after the incident being exposed.

In respond to the Falun Gong rumor, the Chinese authorities concerned had refuted it for many times. Soon after Falun Gong fabricated the rumor, the CNN, Washington Post, Reuters, NHK of Japan etc interviewed the hospital on the spot. On March 22, a U,S. consular official in Shenyang visited the hospital, and praised the environment and medical condition of the hospital. On April 4, the spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry again refuted the rumor when answering the question raised by the AP reporter. On April 12, the government of Sujiatun District and Liaoning Center for Treatment of Thrombus Using TMC and Western Medicine held a news conference in State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China and denounced the despicable behavior of Falun Gong. On April 14, Mr. David A. Kornbluth, the consul general of US Consulate in Shenyang, and four others from the embassy, including an official Li Qisen and Dr. Shapiro, made an in-depth visit to the medical center which lasted for three and half hours. At the same day, the United States Department of State released a report regarding the two investigations. The report claimed, “We found no evidence that the site is being used for any function other than as a normal public hospital.”

In fact, the rumor and “witnesses” Falun Gong fabricated were full of contradictions. For instance, Anne, the so-called “witness,” claimed that the Sujiatun Thrombus Hospital conducted vivisection and illegally transplanted human organs. But actually, located at a downtown area, the hospital was classified in China as one of the Secondary-A level hospitals which meant it was not qualified to “remove human organs” in terms of equipment, medical experience and certificate of the doctors. Furthermore, the hospital only owned 300 sick-beds and there was no way to accommodate more than 6,000 people. The so-called cremator publicized by Falun Gong turned out to be a common boiler. According to Anne, the removed organs were sold to Thailand; but as far as we know, non-relative organ donation was strictly prohibited by law in Thailand, let alone import or export of human organs. The “witness” claimed her ex-husband was a cerebral surgeon, and conducted cornea removal operations since 2001; yet any one with common sense would ask, how could a cerebral surgeon be allowed to remove corneas?

Since the fabrication was far beyond reasonable, even Mr. Harry Wu, who lived abroad and called himself an anti-Chinese government "democratic activist" and an expert of "the issue of Chinese labor education," could not tolerate and wrote publicly to United States Congress and the media to deny the authenticity of the Falun Gong deceit.

2. “Report on organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners”

After the “Sujiatun Concentration Camp Incident” being completely exposed, and in order to divert the international attention and create confusion so as to patch up its lies, Falun Gong deliberately compounded another appalling rumor that the organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners was a common practice in many parts of China. On July 6, 2006, incited by the Falun Gong organization, two Canadians, David Kilgour, former Asia-Pacific Division Director of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and David Matas, a human rights lawyer, issued the Report on Allegations of Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China. Again on January 31, 2007 came out its revised edition. In the report, they claimed that the Chinese government, in a large quantity, was harvesting the living organs from Falun Gong practitioners.

In the report, Professor Shi Bingyi, vice-chairman of the China Medical Organ Transplant Association, was the only professional person as the witness identified by Mr. David Kilgour and Mr. David Matas. The report says: “Shi Bingyi, vice-chairman of the China Medical Organ Transplant Association, says there were about 90,000 transplants in total up until 2005, leaving about 60,000 transplants in the six year period from 2000 to 2005 since the persecution of Falun Gong began.” Professor Shi was very angry about the purely fictitious quotation by Mr. Kilgour and Mr. Matas and raised queries about their intention to fabricate his words. In early January 2007, when interviewed by BBC regarding this topic, Professor Shi Bingyi read a statement: “I have never spoken such words on any occasion. These statistics are utterly baseless. I have no idea for what purpose these two authors fabricated these words. Nor do I know what interests drove them to make rumors.”

The evidence mentioned in the report fell into two categories: (A) the deponent’s testimony or recording. The report did not provide the name, identification, address and contact details of any deponent or the time, venue, procedure, witness and etc. of the testimony. As to the recording, besides above-mentioned mistakes, the basic procedure and regulation of phone-call investigation was not presented; and the recording itself also calls into question. (B) the materials downloaded by the author from the website or other channels which even Mr. Kilgour and Mr. Matas could not tell.

Surprisingly, the authors took as evidence the exposed lies again such as “Anne’s statement” to support the allegation of “massive organ harvesting” of Falun Gong practitioners.

The facts indicate that Falun Gong was the rumor maker and the trouble maker; that Falun Gong was a cult of bad faith; that the purpose of Falun Gong fabrication was to tarnish the image of the Chinese government.

3. Selected cases of Falun Gong practitioners who suffered from “persecution”

In order to cover up its cultic nature, Falun Gong attempts to draw sympathy from the Western society by spreading the so-called “persecution” stories.

Falun Gong has wantonly fabricated the so-called “personal persecution” stories ever since the official ban on Falun Gong. Besides the “massive persecution incidents” such as the “Sujiatun Concentration Camp Incident,” Falun Gong has concocted many “personal persecution” cases. Here are some examples.

  ● “Liao Yuanhua was tortured in prison”

From August to September 2004, the Minghui Net and the Epoch Times simultaneously published on their websites two appalling articles – Liao Yuanhua, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Hubei Province Severely Tortured in Prison; and Liao Yuanhua, a Dafa Disciple Being Tortured by Excruciations at Fanjiatai Prison. The latter publicized 17 photos as well as explanation words, and demonstrated vividly how Liao Yuanhua being “tortured by thirty different kinds of excruciations.”

However, the police investigation indicated that the so-called “excruciation” photos were all churned out by Liao Yuanhua, Wu Yonghong, Yu Jibin and other Falun Gong practitioners who lived in Wuxue City of Hubei Province.

In September 2001, the Minghui Net issued an instruction, asking Falun Gong followers to “collect” the materials of Dafa disciples being “persecuted.”

In the mid August 2004, Liao Yuanhua, a Falun Gong practitioner fabricated the article Liao Yuanhua, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Hubei Province Severely Tortured in Prison after long time plotting, and sent it to the Minghui Net. The news was immediately spread out by the Minghui Net. Later on, Liao Yuanhua received another “instruction” from Falun Gong organization outside China: To provide simulation pictures of the “torturing.”

Upon receiving the message, Liao and other Falun Gong members plotted and prepared the props: One digital camera; three pairs of shoes; a suit of police uniform; two pieces of doctor’s clothes; and an iron chain which was originally used to lock a handcart.

In the suburbs, a tile factory was taken as background of these photos. In Liao Yuanhua’s own home, he and other Falun Gong elements dressed themselves up as doctors, the convicts and the jailers of a prison, and shoot over 100 photos with various kinds of postures, such as the one of “hands being twisted,” the “whole body being hung up and beaten,” and the “head being hit by an iron clothes-stand.” Then, Liao Yuanhua and Yu Shaojun, by means of cutting out, clipping, pasting, and piecing together, churned out more than 20 “combined” photos, and passed 17 choice ones to the Minghui Net.

The case was soon cleared up by police. Liao Yuanhua confessed: “All words and photos were faked,” and that the fabricated pictures were used by the Minghui Net as propaganda to expand the influence of Falun Gong.

According to the confession of Yu Shaojun, the photo of “whole body being hung up and beaten” on Minghui Net was actually a combination of five photos: two photos of empty beds, three photos of Liao Yuanhua – the head, legs and body of Liao respectively – combined into a suspended body of Liao with hands and legs being fixed at two ends. Five photos were pieced together into one. And a fabricated detail of the picture: Two collars of the fetters on the photo were actually the “genius work” of Yu Shaojun – he “added them up” with Photoshop Software on his computer. Other two photos, the so-called “firebrick scorching” pictures were fabricated out of four original photos: two photos were outdoor scenes of the tile factory; two were taken at Yu Jibin’s home while Wu Yonghong and Yu Jibin wrestling with Liao. These four photos were mixed up and pieced together to form two “real photos” of the tile factory.

Other faked photos and the fabricated stories such as “hands being twisted,” “head bumping against a wall,” “going to toilet was prohibited,” or even “injecting unidentified medicines by force” etc can be found everywhere in the same article published by Minghui Net.

Liao Yuanhua said: “Obsessed by Falun Gong fallacies, I lost common sense and acted upon whatever Li Hongzhi said. Since I could not tell truth from lies at that time, I took the cultic teachings as the code of conduct.”

Yu Shaojun said: “He (Li Hongzhi) regards the obsessed followers like us as an instrument, or we fall a prey to him. Under the camouflage of ‘Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance’, he asks us to fabricate and spread rumors.”

  ● “Wei Xingyan was raped in public”

In May 2003, Falun Gong fabricated a story that Wei Xingyan, a graduate student of Chongqing University, was arrested for “telling the truth,” and later raped in public by a policeman of Baihelin Detention House in Shapingba District. Later, Wei Xingyan went on a hunger strike to protest, and the police damaged her windpipe and esophagus by force food injection, such that she was not able to speak and her life was at stake.

The investigation by the Chinese police authority revealed that there was neither such a major called “high voltage DC power transmission and simulation technology,” nor a student named Wei Xingyan, let alone an incident of “Wei Xingyan being raped by a police man.” The rape case of Wei Xingyan was a sheer lie cooked up by Falun Gong practitioners Chen Shumin and Lu Zhengqi following Falun Gong’s instructions. Therefore, Chongqing University refuted the rumor publicly. In February 2004, the First Intermediate People’s Court of Chongqing publicly judged the Chen Shumin case, which was covered by the media. The fact proves that the rumor was fabricated by Falun Gong.

  ● “Li Yanhua was persecuted to death”

In the series articles of “Nine Commentaries” cooked up by Falun Gong, a case was quoted: On February 19, 2001, Li Yanhua, a Falun Gong practitioner from Liaoning Province, was kidnapped by the police and beaten to death, when she was distributing leaflets of Falun Gong.

The investigation revealed that the so-called persecution of Li Yanhua was fabricated by local Falun Gong followers.

Li Yanhua, female, 58 years old, lived in Dongjiang Village, Nanlou Economic and Development Area, Dashiqiao city, and began to practice Falun Gong in 1994. On February 19, 2001, Li Yanhua’s diabetes reoccurred abruptly en route of distributing illegal Falun Gong leaflets required by the Falun Gong Headquarters. She died after emergency treatment.

At about 23:00 o’clock on February 22, four Falun Gong practitioners, Wang Changshun, Xu Zhengqiang, Liu Qingnian and Lu Guozhan, carrying a camera, a screwdriver, and electric torches, stole into the mortuary of the Donghuan Hospital. They dragged out the corpse from the ice chest, threw the body onto the floor, and stripped it. Wang Changshun took seven photographs. In the mortuary was left a poster written in advance reading “Beaten to death by police, Li’s spirit calls for a redress.” Later, an article counter to the fact dictated by Wang Changshun and recorded by Li Ying, was turned into leaflets for distribution, and posted on Falun Gong websites to make sensations.

Recalling the event, Lu Guozhan said: “In the mortuary, we didn’t find out any bruises we had expected on her body.” “We became obsessed with ideas of ‘Fa-rectification’ and ‘protecting the Fa’ at that time, and all we did was in the interest of Falun Gong. By and by, these ideas became the habit mode of our thinking.”

Local residents felt a great repugnance to the rumor. Persons concerned in the case, such as the villager who found Li Yanhua at the first place; the policeman who went to Li’s rescue; the doctor who gave treatment to Li Yanhua; the man who guarded the mortuary entrance and dressed Li after her death; and the legal medical expert who conducted forensic identification for Li Yuanhua, all expressed their indignation, and thought the fabrication of Falun Gong was naive and ridiculous.

Mr. Feng Mingsen, Li Yanhua’s husband, was boiled with rage about the incident. No one would tolerate the barbarous act of striping the body of Li Yanhua and took pictures of it. Mr. Feng condemned not only the convicts but also the black hands behind the scene: “They (Falun Gong members) confused right and wrong, and they brought sufferings to people all over our country. You know how we address them? Demons! Only Falun Gong could do such a thing so mean.”

Experts from medical circles publicly question the authenticity of the “excruciation” pictures publicized on Falun Gong websites.

Mr. Rambodoc, a surgeon in Calcutta of India, wrote on his personal Blog an article Is the Falun Gong Going Wrong, querying the authenticity of photos publicized by Falun Gong from his professional point of view. The article pointed out that, in many cases, the injury demonstrated on the photo did not tally with what the words had described. “Medically speaking, this falls close to the category of myth or rubbish.” Mr. Rambodoc also held counsel with Ken Mattox, a senior American surgeon and other medical experts, about the issue. Mattox said: “Photographs can be deceiving.”

To the surgeon’s astonishment, several photos used by Falun Gong to illustrate “how breasts of many women were damaged and infected after electric execution,” were actually shoot from a same woman who suffered from a terminal breast cancer.

In the case of Ms. Gao Rongrong, who was allegedly tortured with an electric baton held inside her mouth for hours, the pictures seem to be surprisingly benign. Medically, a trauma of that severity would have led to tongue swelling to the point of causing obstruction in breathing, and a phenomenal facial swelling would also be seen. Electrical burns also cause scars, the kind of which are lacking in the pictures.

Similar allegations can easily be found on Falun Gong websites, such as: “Her nose was injured as a result of the brutal force-feeding, turned into an abscess, and became cancerous in 2003. She died on July 12, 2007”; “She developed cancer after being subjected to severe physical abuse.” In Mr. Rambodoc’s words: “Medically speaking, this falls close to the category of myth or rubbish.”

The above-mentioned are just some examples of the so-called persecution cases. Up to now, Falun Gong is still willfully spreading these fabrications.
