Feb. 9 (Kaiwind) – On February 6, a large-scale parade composed of 10 floats and over 70 groups from businesses, communities and governmental departments was held at Chinatown in New York to celebrate Chinese Spring Festival, which has attracted nearly 100,000 citizens.

This is the 12th parade for the Chinese New Year, and has become the most amazing landscape among the various large-scale events in New York. After the success of the parade, Steven Tin, President of the Better Chinatown Society, the official sponsor of the Chinese Lunar New Year Parade and Festival said this event was perfectly successful.

On February 6, the Chinese are performing dragon dance at Chinatown in New York, US.

The local Falun Dafa Association attempted to attend the parade before, but was denied by the sponsor.Mr. Tim answered in his email that, “due to the unsettled conflict your organization has with numerous community groups and individuals that can create potential security issues and disruption.” So, the websites of Falun Gong complained that “the real aim of the new year parade was supporting the Chinese Communist Regime and persecuting Falun Gong members.”

In May 2008, the Chinese in New York held donation events at Chinatown in Flushing for the people of Sichuan where there was an earthquake. Falun Gong members disturbed these events, which raised indignation among the Chinese people and they gathered to fight against Falun Gong voluntarily for over 10 days.

New York's Chinatown, in downtown Manhattan with 150,000 Chinese people, is the largest Chinatown as well as the centre of politics, economy and culture for the Chinese in the US.
