Shi Hongbo, male, was born in June 1969 in Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, northeastern China. He once rented a house in Xianjin Street, Jinzhou District in Dalian. On Feb. 28th 2011, he died of lung cancer for refusing to receive medical treatment.
Shi was once an excellent student. At the age of 18, he joined the People's Liberation Army after passing a series of strict tests. In the army, he was an excellent soldier and always won the first in all performances. He achieved a title of "crack shot" in a military competition. After his retirement, he worked in the Mudanjiang City of Heilongjiang Province. And then he got married and had a son. Everything went well, both his work and family.
Shi Hongbo might be as happy as that all his life, but his fate undergone a earthshaking changes in 1997, in which he got acquainted with Falun Gong by chance. At the very beginning, he was not very interested in practicing Falun Gong. However, Shi, who enjoyed an easy life, had too much free time which made him feel bored In order to kill the time, he often played with some friends who were Falun Gong practitioners.
As time went on, influenced by those Falun Gong practitioners Shi Hongbo's mind changed and began to hang up on it. He bought books, tape recorders and CDs on Falun Gong from Falun Gong practitioners. He began devoting himself to studying Falun Gong at home. Since then, he had been indifferent to his wife and son. In his heart, there was nothing but Falun Gong. What he said was all about Falun Gong, such as achieving consummation and becoming an immortal. At last, he even didn't go to work, putting all his energy practicing Falun Gong. He turned a deaf ear to his wife's repeated advices. At last, his wife's patience was completely exhausted, so she divorced with him and went back to her parents' home with her son. After his divorce, Shi Hongbo felt more free, devoting himself to practicing Falun Gong.
In 2002, introduced by a Falun Gong member, he got to know Cong Pijing, a practitioner in Pulandian Dalian City. Shi left his hometown for Dalian. He spread handouts on Falun Gong in Pulandian, Wafangdian, Xigangqu and etc. with Cong Pijing. In 2004, they rented a house in Building 23, Yangguang Community, Xianjin Street, Jinzhou New Area.
To earn his daily bread and take up the Falun Gong activities, Shi Hongbo opened a refreshment room in partnership with others. At the beginning, the business was rather good. But because of his addiction in Falun Gong , he had no intention to operate the shop. He invested all his money in purchasing Falun Gong books, tape recorders and CDs as well as computers, printers and fax machines to help him print Falun Gong booklets. Thus, the refreshment room became short of capital of turnover. The business got worse and worse. His partner was very disappointed, so he dropped out of the management. The refreshment room had to close after his partner's withdrawal. Then Shi couldn't make a living. He didn't know where the next meal came and often got hungry. However, his interest in Falun Gong never be influenced by his predicament. He burned himself in publicizing Falun Gong, which was his only goal and spiritual support.
He was getting even worse. He had no resistant to disease at all and was easy to catch a cold and fever. Even a slight cold would make him feel very painful and unconscious. Even though he never stopped practicing Falun Gong. Soon he suffered from pneumonia.
Pneumonia is not a serious disease. It could recover as long as the patient insists on receiving medical treatment and doing exercises. But Shi Hongbo paid no attention to that at all. He refused to be hospitalized, but devoting himself to studying and spreading Falun Gong instead.
When his mother who lived in the hometown knew Shi's situation. Her heart ached for his son, so she came to look after him. Seeing his son's weakness, she was quite distressed. She advised him to go to the hospital. But Shi told his mother: "Nobody can save me but my master. When the master opens the divyacaksus and mounts Falun for me, I will achieve consummation and became an immortal. It is a test from the Master. I can eliminate karma so long as I stick to practicing and meditating. Having injections, taking medicine or going to the hospital can only prevent me from eliminating karma and retard my progress of satisfaction."
On hearing that, his mother could do nothing but shook her head. shed her tears silently and left him aside. In that way he forced himself to practice Falun Gong. Coupled with over-exertion for spreading Falun Gong, his pneumonia didn't get better, instead it grew worse to be tuberculosis.
In 2010, his tuberculosis developed to lung cancer. He was completed run down by the cancer. His weight sharply dropped from more than 180 Jin to 120 Jin. He was skinny and his face was like yellow wax. He took a high fever and began to cough blood. Even though he was aching all over, he still insisted on practicing Falun Gong. He didn't take the medicine his mother had bought for him and refused to go to the hospital.
On the last day of February 2011, at the age of 42, Shi died of disease. Shi Hongbo who was once a "crack shot" died in a strange land, leaving his lonely and embittered old-aged mother and sighs from his neighbors.
