Faith without Reason is a scary thing

Hilda Hiong is a student of London’s Bartlett School .She was born in Malaysia and raised in Hong Kong for 18 years. Recently Hilda watched a video about The Church of Almighty God. She was very scared by the cult. As a Christian, Hilda wrote a blog to warn others on December 23, 2014.

This was not the first time I’ve heard of The Church of Almighty God. It is a cult group that exists in China that proclaims Jesus is back on earth in the form of a woman currently residing in America.

As a Christian watching the video, it really scares me because (in my honest opinion) I believe that man who is the cult evangelist is completely off the mark on who God is. However, one could say the same if they are an atheist or an agnostic. They might look at my beliefs and go – I can’t believe you can believe in something like that.

It feels very out of this world and impossible because you cannot see it.

Faith is a tricky thing. No one knows exactly why God chooses to hide Himself. However, this is not proof that He does not exist.

In the bible it mentions in 1 John 4

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirit to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.

The bible asks to test the spirit. Doubting is alright, we need to be certain and not simply follow anything because we get this tingling sensation it might be right. Not even when our friends or family makes claims. Where have they got their claims from?

Later on from 1 John 4:7

Dear friends, let us love one another,  for love comes from God. … This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

So really test the gospels, why are they accurate historical accounts? Have other accounts been written on Jesus? Ask questions and find out. See if love has really been preached throughout the gospels. Most importantly, get rid of all bias and understand holistically, not just because of one verse. Strangely, this is how some cults have developed. Taking verses and transforming it to suit their ideals.
