Brian Leonard Golightly Marshall lives in Toogoom, Queensland, about 300 kilometres north of Brisbane, and claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus of Nazareth.

The 71-year-old has published a number of images and videos he claims prove he is the image seen on the Shroud of Turin - a religious artifact that some believe bears the image of Jesus.

Other posts on Mr Marshall's Facebook page are pictures of his car - dubbed 'The ark of the covenant', his pet cat and his plants.

The 71-year-old's reach even extends as far as the United States, where one man has been convinced into abandoning his family, selling his home and moving to Australia to be with Mr Marshall.

A concerned man, who lives in California, said his American father-in-law has decided to leave behind his wife, children and grandchildren to live with the religious cult.

The family member said his wife's step-father has been tricked by Mr Marshall into following his word.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, the man said he did not want to share family details due to the embarrassment felt by his wife, who was still coming to terms with the news her step-father was abandoning her.

In a post which first appeared on Reddit, the man said his father-in-law's mental fragility is being taken advantage of, and is worried about the damage his leaving will do to the remaining family members.

'My wife's step-dad is a really nice guy, he's great with the kids, but he believes in some bulls**t,' he wrote.

'He believes this guy, Brian Leonard Golightly Marshall, is Jesus Christ. He told his wife that he's going to go to Australia to be with him. Leaving her and his kids and grand-kids to go be with this guy.

'My mother-in-law and him have fought about this several times in the past. She doesn't buy into it. He's said he's going to leave before and it didn't happen. But it sounds like it really is going to this time. They had a realtor come over and everything.'

Much of Mr Marshall's alleged proof is based on what he claims are similarities between himself and the Shroud of Turin.
