Wang Xianghua is a 53-year-old man. He only received secondary school education and is now a farmer in Gaozhuang Village, Kouquan County of Nanjiao District in Datong City, Shanxi Province.
Due to sudden osteomyelitis, Wang underwent an operation at the age of 7. Over the decades, through treatment and exercise, Wang’s physical condition was good, and he could work and live like others. He and his wife operated an individual transportation business. Through years of hard work, they built up new houses, had large bank savings and led a happy life.
However, after exercising “Falun Gong”, Wang’s life drastically changed.
In August 1998, Wang, who used to do morning exercise, learnt about “Falun Gong” in the village cultural and sports center. He heard people say that as long as people exercised “Falun Gong”, they could obtain health and longevity without taking any medicine. At first, Wang doubted the claims, however, under the incitement of some “Falun Gong” followers, he started to exercise “Falun Gong”with the desire to eliminate diseases and build up his body without taking medicine. At that time, Wang suffered a relapse of his childhood condition. Due to the power of psychological suggestion, he concentrated on his exercises, reached psychological balance and completely forgot his disease. He thought that was all because of “Falun Gong”.
Due to his obsession of Falun Gong, Wang firmly believed Li Hongzhi’s theory that “diseases and death are all karma”. He even believed that his condition had improved because of the so-called karma of Falun Gong. For weeks, he no longer operated his transportation business. To show his sincerity and loyalty to Falun Gong, he even refused to take medicine bought by his family. Looking at his increasingly emaciated body, his wife attempted to persuade him to take medicine, but failed. Every night, when he saw his weeping wife, he patiently explained to her that as a loyal follower of Li Hongzhi, “If I take medicine, karma could be pushed back and my body couldn’t be cleaned. With the protection of my Master and the rotating law wheel, my diseases will be eliminated.”
With time flying by, Wang’s condition was aggravated. Over the several months, he felt an increasingly severe pain in his leg. However, after the pain was eased, Wang removed suspicion and felt that he was blessed by his Master.
In July 1999, the government banned “Falun Gong” according to law. Many villagers stopped practicing “Falun Gong” and returned to living normal lives. Wang could not understand why the government banned “Falun Gong” and was still obsessed with the theory of karma. He still practiced and ignored the pleasof family members.
One day in September 1999, when practicing “Falun Gong”, Wang felt acute pain. He hoped that "his reverent Master" could save him, but received no response. With desperation, he fell into a coma.
After waking up, he found his leg was lost. His wife cried and told him: “That was the consequence of practicing Falun Gong. The doctor said that because you practiced and stopped taking medicine, you missed the best opportunity and large areas of your right leg were degenerated. Now, it is impossible to control your condition and your leg must be amputated immediately. Your Master, Li Hongzhi had not cured your diseases and only made you lose your leg. If the volunteers had not helped send you to the hospital and we had not contacted the experts for surgery, you would have lost your life. In the past two years, you were busy practicing and all the family’s savings were donated by you to Li Hongzhi. It was impossible for us to cover the surgery expenses and all the money was donated by the volunteers and villagers.”
Once out of hospital, Wang went to the psychological correction center in the Nanjiao District for comprehensive treatment with the help of volunteers and the company of his wife. After receiving psychological treatment, he gradually quit “Falun Gong” and returned to a normal life.
Before the Spring Festival of 2000, Wang cried and told the anti-cult volunteers, who came to visit him: “Due to Falun Gong, I lost a leg. Then, thanks to the volunteers, my life was saved. I hope all the kind people can learn from my story and realize that Li Hongzhi is a cheater. All people should believe in science and say no to the cult!”
