Sun Rong
A villager named Xu Zhijun lives in Taqiao village, Hedong District, Linyi city, Shandong Province. His wife is named Sun Rong. Xu used to have a happy family. However, because his wife believed in “Almighty God”, he has lost everything.
Past happiness
In 2001, Xu began to work in an electronics factory. There, he met Sun Rong and they fell in love with each other. Sun was born in March 1984. She was beautiful, kind, cheerful and optimistic. Xu was the envy of his male colleagues.
In January 2008, they got married. When Sun was two months pregnant, Xu asked her not to work and stay at home to rest. His mother came to their home to look after Sun. In January 2009, they had a lovely son and the whole family was happy.
Harassment by “God”
By the end of 2009, Xu’s mother told him, “recently, two women have come to your house once a month. Sometimes they come separately and sometimes they come together. It seems like they are afraid of being seen by others. Sun Rong said they are her aunts, but I don’t think so.”
Xu asked Sun who those women were. She said they were believers of “God”. Xu thought they were Christians and didn’t think much more about it. The two women didn’t come after that. (Now Xu knows that they were believers of “Almighty God” from nearby villages and they went to enroll Sun into the “Almighty God” cult).
In the spring of 2010, Sun always took her child out to play, which seemed normal. However, one of Xu’s colleagues informed him, “Your wife often left your child in my house and asked me to look after him. Then she left for three to four hours. I don’t think this is normal.”
Xu felt puzzled and asked Sun where she had been. She dodged the question. Because Xu didn’t have any evidence, and for the purpose of harmony, Xu didn’t force the issue. (Now Xu knows that she went to engage in activities of “Almighty God”.)
After that, she seemed “obedient” and never went out.
Trapped in “Almighty God”
However, Sun had changed a lot. She didn’t watch TV or talk with Xu anymore. According to his mother, when Xu was not at home, Sun would listen to MP3s with headphones on, or just read some books. She was not willing to do housework. When Xu was at home, she would hide those books.
One day, when Sun was not at home, Xu looked for her books. He found books such as “Talks Manifest Themselves in Flesh”, “Record of Three-Step Work of God”, and “Sing New Songs with Lambs”. He also found an MP3.
Xu didn’t know what those books were about, so he went to look for answer on the Internet. He was startled that all of the books were about the cult “Almighty God”. He knew how evil and dreadful “Almighty God” was through www.kaiwind.com, so he tore up all those books and destroyed the MP3.
When Sun found out, she said Xu was a “devil” and “Satan.”
According to Xu’s mother, Sun insisted on reading cult books and listening to MP3s about “Almighty God”, but in a more discreet way. Xu often searched their house and would destroy those materials once he found them.
Their house became a gathering point.
In April 2013, Xu’s mother told him, “When you went to work, those two women came again. They acted weirdly, stayed in a room and closed the door and window. I knocked at the door and went in. I saw them lying on bed. Sun covered them with a quilt and didn’t want me to see them. They came two or three times a week. Sometimes they arrived at 8 or 9 o’clock in the morning and left at 11 o’clock. Sometimes, they came at 2 or 3 o’clock in the afternoon and left at 4 or 5 o’clock.”
Xu asked for leave from his post and came home to see what was happeneing and discovered that what his mother had said was true.
The two women tried to hook in Xu and enroll him to believe in “God”. They said how good the “God” was and that “Jesus was outdated now. It’s the time of ‘Almighty God’”. “If you believe in ‘God’, you don’t have to work. ‘God’ will give you things. Last year, we went to a sister’s house and felt hungry. The sister bought a box of convenient noodles in supermarket. She opened the box and saw the box was full of money.” Xu felt disgusted and said, “I don’t believe in your ‘God’. Go away now. I don’t want to see you again.”
Mad for “Almighty God”
After that, the two women didn’t go again, but his wife often ran away from home without giving a reason.
Xu tried to prevent her. When he locked the electric bike, Sun would go out by bicycle. When he locked away the bicycle and she would walk out.
Xu had no way out but to tell his mother-in-law about Sun’s belief in “God”. His mother-in-law asked Sun to visit her and locked her in a room. She said angrily, “Ask your ‘Almighty God’ to send you things to eat. I want to see how powerful it is.”
After a while, Sun became mad. She broke furniture, the door and a window, trying to break out. Her hands were cut by glass and bled. They had to send her to receive treatment.
After treatment, Sun admitted her mistake to her mother, “I will never believe in ‘God’ again.” Although doubtful, her mother asked Xu to take her home.
Pretend to leave “Almighty God”
The next day, Sun found a job in a hotel in the town. She began to work and the whole family felt relieved. Xu felt satisfied.
However, three or four months later, Xu heard from his friend that his wife had stopped working again. Xu went to look for his wife at the hotel. The manager told him that she had left for a week to look after their child.
Xu called his wife, “Where are you?”
Sun answered, “I’m working at the hotel.”
Xu said, “I am in the hotel. Where are you?”
Sun said, “I’m with our child on the street.”
Xu went to see her. At a crossroads, they met. Sun appeared diffident, afraid of being questioned by Xu. At that time, Sun’s elder sister passed by and asked Sun to go back to her mother’s house. Xu didn’t want her to go, but Sun insisted. Xu compromised.
Short runaway
Sun said to her elder sister, “Take my son and I with you on your motorcycle. Wait here. I have to park my electric bike and then I’ll go with you.”
Her sister agreed. However, she waited and waited but Sun didn’t come back. Sun’s cellphone was off. Her sister worried a lot and called Xu.
Xu and his relatives and friends began to look for Sun. They found Sun’s electric bike but couldn’t find Sun. One week later, Sun’s phone was turned on and Xu persuaded her to come back.
After Sun came back, she said that she had gone to Linyi to find a job but she failed. The family knew that she went to take part in the activities of “Almighty God”.
Her younger brother was so angry that he dragged her to the police station. She begged, “Let me go. I will stop believing in ‘God’.”
To see whether she had woken up or not, her family took her back to her mother’s and kept her under tight surveillance. Several days later, Sun appeared well-behaved. Xu took her back. Life seemed normal again.
Abandon everything
On July 9, 2014, when Xu finished work and arrived home, he found that Sun was not there. He called her but her phone was off. Xu was concerned and asked his mother who said, “She asked me to look after the child before lunch and went away. She was going to Linyi.”
Xu returned back home and found her phone and I.D. Card. A note on the computer table said, “To Xu Jun: don’t look for me. I am going to Linyi to work. I will work there for half a year at most and I will come back myself...”
Their 7-year-old son didn’t want to mention his mother. When he was asked if he missed her, he would be silent or say “no”. He didn’t want to say “mother”.
Sun’s mother is 58 years old. She became absent-minded due to missing Sun. At noon of June 6, because she missed her daughter when she was cooking, her house caught fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the main house survived thanks to the timely rescue by villagers and firefighters. The fire caused a direct loss of nearly 60,000 yuan.
What happened to Xu proves again that “Almighty God” brings no blessings but limitless harm. There is no so-called “manifestation”. It’s better to believe in people than to believe in “Almighty God”. It’s better to love your family than to love “Almighty God”.
