Falun Gong entered Moldova from its neighboring country Romania in 2012. After 2006, Falun Gong attempted to be registered in Moldova four times but was refused by the Moldovan government on each occasion. As a result, it launched protests and other illegal public activities against the Ministry of Justice time and again.
Moldovan parliamentarian, Elena Khrenova, launched a lawsuit with the aim to ban Falun Gong and to recognize Falun Gong as an extremist organization, in 2013. She won the case in 2014 but, due to an appeal from Falun Gong, a final judgement was delayed until December 2016.
Before the trial, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Moldova made a decision to ban the local “Falun Dafa Association” and “Moldova Falun Gong Qigong Association” on February 11, 2015. It made a decision to “continue banning the use of the Falun Gong identity and add it to the list of extremist publicity materials” on October 7, 2016.
It’s reported that there have been no signs of Falun Gong activities in front of the Chinese Embassy in Moldova or in public places such as Central Park after the final judgment by the Supreme Court.
