(Li Jie/ chinafxj.cn) According to foreign media including SinovisionNet and Sin Chew Daily, local time on December 29th, 2017, the astounding murder in Ohio, US, was finally judged. 30-year-old illegal Chinese immigrant Mingming Chen was sentenced 22 years in Ohio prison for killing her 5-year-old daughter and hiding her body in the freezer of the family’s restaurant. Chen pleaded guilty to murder, evidence-tampering, corpse abuse, child endangerment and obstructing justice. Chen is expected to be deported after completing her term of imprisonment.

Police claimed that Mingming Chen and her husband Liangjie Zhao reported their “missing” daughter to the police on January 9th, 2017. The report sparked a state-wide manhunt and police combed the nearby area looking for the girl. Her body was found the next day, still inside the restaurant in North Canton, Ohio, near the kitchen’s freezer.
Chen was reported to punch the girl several times in the head, causing fatal brain injury. After she was struck on the floor by Chen, the girl’s father, Zhao, allegedly took his daughter into the bathroom to wash the fluid off of her face and revived her after finding green fluid coming from her mouth, police have said. Unable to save the situation, the couple hid the little body in a container and covered the body with salt.
Zhao, Chen’s husband, pleaded guilty earlier to charges including obstructing justice, corpse abuse, tampering with evidence and endangering children. He would serve a sentence of 12 years in jail.
The couple, who opened a Chinese restaurant in 2013, came from East China’s Fujian province.
Media revealed that the prime culprit, Mingming Chen, was actually a Falun Gong follower.
Newsnet5.com reported on January 11th, 2017, that according to records of federal judiciary of the United States, Chen applied for political asylum in 2009. She claimed persecution by the Chinese government as she was a Falun Gong follower. However, her request was rejected by Immigration Judge. In 2012, Chen lodged an appeal but was finally rejected again. She was then deported on December, 2012. Municipal Law Director Andrea Scassa in Massillon disclosed that, Mrs. Chen allegedly received removal order or similar files. And another source said that the judgement was left unsettled as Chen was favored by her relatives in State of New York.
