Miss Xu, born on January 5, 1984, is a secondary school student in Linjiang City, Jilin Province.
Influenced by her parents, Xu began to practice Falun Gong in June 1998. In September the same year, she was enrolled in a secondary school. Obsessed with Falun Gong, she showed no interest in her studies and her marks dropped dramatically. Xu's teachers and relatives talked to her parents, hoping they would make the girl to work harder in her lessons. But her parents replied, "It's useless to go to school. It will be OK for her to practice Falun Gong at home." Although Xu resumed school thanks to the suasion of the school administration, she failed to set her mind on her studies. Instead, she spread the idea of Falun Gong among her classmates, affecting some of them to varying extent. In the afternoon of June 5, 1999, Xu told her classmates, "Mankind has come to the brink of extinction and the Earth is also going to explode," and "Let's have a feel of the end of the world." She bought a bottle of sleeping pills and distributed them among a dozen of her classmates. Most of them (including herself) took two or three pills. One female student took 25 pills out of curiosity. During a class, some of them were very thirsty, some fell sleep and others began to vomit. The teacher reported the case to the school management. The girl who took 25 pills was rushed to the Linjiang Municipal Hospital. Thanks to timely rescue, she recovered and was discharged from hospital two days later. The other students did not suffer much as they took a small dosage.
