Cao, a farmer of Huaidi Village in the suburbs of Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, had stomach problem and neurasthenia.
Cao's husband Wang Jianjun said that Cao began to practice Falun Gong in April 1995. She refused medical treatment and medicine from that time. She became seriously ill and was rushed to hospital, but she still refused treatment. She said that Master Li controlled her mind. She urged her child to practice Falun Gong and succeed Li Hongzhi when the child grew up. She wrote several suicide notes. Finally, on April 6, 1997, she drowned herself in Dongming Canal. In a note she left for her husband, she said that Li Hongzhi controlled her mind and she could not bear the suffering any more. She claimed that Li had told her to drown herself.
