Wang Qingrun and his son

2007-08-20

Wang Qingrun and his son Wang Shoujin are farmers in Yaoling Village of Qiuzigou Township, Suizhong County, Liaoning Province.

The father and son were both obsessed with Falun Gong. Early in 1998, relatives and friends found Wan Shoujin's belly was swollen and advised him to see a doctor. But Wang Shoujin, believing it was the result of practicing Falun Gong, refused to see a doctor or take any medicine. On the contrary, he continued to practice Falun Gong. Three days before Chinese New Year in 1998, he died of cirrhosis of the liver. His father, Wang Qingrun, was also diagnosed sick with cirrhosis. But he too refused any treatment, believing it showed his "karma" was being "dispelled." As a result, his condition went from bad to worse, and finally he died at home three days after his son.

The deaths of the Wangs shocked the villagers. Having borne witness to the grim facts, Wang Shoujin's wife Sun Su'e decided to break with Falun Gong.
