Yuan Yuge, 35, is a resident of Renqiu City, Hebei Province. She had a happy family life until she and her husband started to practice Falun Gong in 1997. They even forced their 10-year-old son to practice " Falun Gong" with them.
On June 25, 1998, Yuan Yuge fell into a trance, and claimed that she was going to become an immortal or a Buddha. She threw herself and her son into the city moat. The child, although injured, managed to crawl out of the moat and returned home to seek help. Yuan was saved and taken to hospital.
Yuan Yuge gradually recovered from her physical injuries, but she is always afflicted by mental illness. Falun Gong has brought suffering to her family.
