Fan Lexue, 51, from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.
Suffering from glaucoma, Fan was hospitalized for treatment in April 1999. After that her eye condition was improved, and a thorough physical examination showed that she had no other illnesses. But in May 1999, somebody introduced her to practice Falun Gong. Not long after, her family noticed that she became mentally abnormal. First, she forbade her family to kill any animals; second, she often examined herself for any wrongdoings; third, she claimed that she had seen deceased acquaintances. One day, when she was shopping in a supermarket with her family, she said that she saw a fox spirit there. On May 16, Fan was taken to the Nanjing Cranial Hospital for check and found that she was suffering from psychiatric dysfunctions. The doctor prescribed some medicine for her and forbade her to continue practicing Falun Gong. But Fan refused to take any medicine and continued to practice. At 2 p.m. on June 5, she woke up from an afternoon nap and suddenly jumped out of the window near her bed and killed herself.
