Hu Guangying, a retired worker in Shanghai, began to practice Falun Gong in 1996 and got infatuated with Li Hongzhi's fallacies soon. In August 2000, when she suffered from scabies, her children and neighbors tried to persuade her to see a doctor but she refused, saying, "This is the reaction from practicing Falun Gong. It will help discharge poison from the scabies." For a long time her scabies did not show the least sign of improvement. Then she said: "This is the karma which can only be eliminated by practicing Falun Gong. Falun Gong practitioners should not take medicines and have injections." Then her ailment got worse and worse and at last became festered bedsore. On January 26, 2001, when Hu Guangying found it hard to swallow the food she ate, she still refused medical treatment, believing that she could be cured by "dispelling karma" and attain "all-round fulfillment." She died on January 29.
Li Hongzhi said: "Disciples of Falun Dafa are not allowed to see doctors and you are not one of us Falun Dafa disciples if you go to hospital." He also said that "the basic cause of all illness and misfortune is karma which you acquired from doing evil things in your previous lives. Taking medicine can only press back karma but can not cure your diseases. The power achieved by practicing Falun Gong can automatically eliminate viruses and karma."
