In recent years, the backbone members of the Falun Gong cult organization have died one after another, which completely exposed lies advocated by Li Hongzhi that “one person in a family practicing Falun Gong would bring benefits to the whole family”, or “Fa bodies can protect followers”, or “practitioners will never die”, etc. However, there are still some “Falun Gong” addicts who keep on their cultivation with the faith of pursuing the “Perfection” and insist on “learning the Dharma, sending forth righteous thoughts, and clarifying the truth”. Here, I’ll expose Li Hongzhi’s fallacies by citing the case of my colleague Wang Ping.

I am an employee of the Health and Epidemic Prevention Station in Wuhe County, Bengbu, Anhui Province. And Wang Ping, who graduated from Anhui Medical University with a bachelor’s degree, is a colleague in our unit. She was born in August 1964. She fell in love with a classmate when she was in college. After graduation, she was assigned back to her hometown to work in the Health Bureau of Wuhe County, while her boyfriend was assigned to his hometown to work in the Health Bureau of Susong County. For the sake of their marriage in the future, her boyfriend asked to be transferred to Wuhe County. They got married soon after and lived a happy family life. Unfortunately, their happy marriage life didn’t last long. In 1998, a “Qigong Fever” swept over China, Wang Ping joined a local “Falun Gong” organization to stay health and keep fit. At the beginning, both her mother and husband only regarded what she practiced was a kind of Qigong. But unexpectedly, Wang Ping soon became obsessed with “Falun Gong” books such as Zhuan Falun (Turn the Dharma wheel), etc., and other compilations of made-up stories preaching magical effects of “Cultivation”. Since then, Wang Ping had changed from a normal person to a diehard cult follower who was in pursuit of becoming “an immortal”, achieving “Perfection” and ascending to “Heavens”.

Since then, Wang Ping seemed to have become someone else. She cared less and less about her husband, stopped showing gratitude to her mother, and lost the desire to advance for her career. She went to work early to disseminate “Falun Gong” propaganda on her way to work, and she left work early to “clarify the truth” to passers-by. While all her college classmates thrived on their career and achieved impressive greatness, she put all her energy into “cultivation” and made her family life in a mess. She wouldn’t do any housework and refused to do grocery shopping or cook, leaving all household chores and money earning task to her husband alone. After repeatedly failing to dissuade her from being obsessed with those nonsense, quarrel became part of their everyday life and the gap between their hearts widened day by day. Finally, her husband, in a fit of pique, divorced her and then transferred back to work in Susong County again.

The failed marriage didn’t wake up Wang Ping. On the contrary, she felt “relieved” after the divorce. Then, she devoted herself to the “career” of “Dafa learning” and “cultivation”. Seeing that she skipped meals frequently and was unable to take good care of herself, Wang Ping’s mother started to “babysit” her, doing laundries and cooking meals for her. But Wang Ping kept ignoring both her personal and family affairs. Due to her irregular lifestyle, her health was getting worse and worse. For that, her mother went to visit Wang Ping’s leaders at work many times, hoping that they could persuade her. However, at that time, Wang Ping was so deeply addicted to the cult that she regarded those well-meant advices as shallow understandings from “ordinary people”. As a practitioner, she firmly believed the fallacy that “the principle of Dafa was the exact opposite of that of ordinary people” (Li Hongzhi’s words). So, she wouldn’t listen to anyone else.

On one occasion, Wang Ping’s mother cried in front of us, the old lady implored piteously in a voice choked with sobs, “Please, my daughter, stop fooling around with ‘Falun Gong’. Believe in the government and have a normal life.” “Your father died of illness when you were a litter girl. I bore bitter hardships to raise you up. I scrimped and saved to afford you a good college education. Is it the way you repay me?” Unexpectedly, Wang Ping replied, “Who asked to be sent to college? The modern science and the stuff they taught me in the college were all lies. Only Falun Dafa is the science of the highest level!” We were all shocked by Wang Ping’s words and wondered how she as a college graduate could turn to be such an irrational person. We worried her state of mind so much but there was nothing we could do about it. Her mother was so angry that she slapped herself in public and wept bitterly. In the face of what was happening around her, Wang Ping just looked untouched and stayed there with a poker face.

As the years went on, Wang Ping became more and more obsessed with “Falun Gong” while she got thinner and thinner year by year. Her weight dropped from 55 Kg to 40 Kg. We tried repeatedly to persuade her to take medical examinations in the hospital, but she just refused by saying that she wanted to “save money” for our unit. She frequently burped and suffered from indigestion, but she refused to take medicine even when her mother pleaded for it. She explained, “Practitioners don’t get sick. Even if they might seem to be sick, it’s caused by ‘Karma’ rather than illness. Karma is generated by bad things I committed in my previous incarnation and can only be eliminated by cultivation in my present life. If I took the medicine, I might appear to be recovered. But my karma would still be there, and I have to suffer more in the next life.” Therefore, Wang Ping stubbornly insisted on not taking medicine or receiving any medical treatment.

As a graduate from a medical university and an employee working in the public health department, Wang Ping unexpectedly changed into a completely irrational person after believing in fallacies of Li Hongzhi. It was really beyond our comprehension. As the ancient maxim lasting thousands of years described, “If you don’t cure a minor illness, you have to suffer from a devastating disease.” In January 2017, when the whole nation was preparing to celebrate the Chinese New Year, Wang Ping died in bed at the age of only 53 as a result of not having her illness cured in time. Experienced such a traumatic tragedy, Wang Ping’s mother had to arrange her daughter’s funeral in person. The old lady didn’t cry at the funeral—her tears had run dry long time ago.

When colleagues learned the news of Wang Ping’s death, we all went to her home to visit the bereaved family. Her mother’s eyes were full of hatred for Li Hongzhi and his “Falun Gong”. Upon seeing us, a loud sob broke out of the old lady, “It was Li Hongzhi who killed my daughter!”
