Falun Gong is a cult: Press release by Chinese Embassy

2007-11-16

A bunch of Falun Gong followers are planning to stage demonstrations here in Canberra, the Embassy deems it necessary to let the public know the truth about the question of Falun Gong.

Falun Gong is not a religion, nor is it a meditation sect. Notoriously destructive, it is an out-and?out evil cult.It concocts a whole set of lies and heretical fallacies to deceive people. It exercises mind control over its practitioners, manipulating them spiritually. It uses heretical ideas to frighten its members into following blindly and unquestionably its master Li Hongzhi, inducing them to be obsessed with his ideas and therefore loose their individual ability to think independently and to protect themselves.Furthermore, It forbids its followers to consult doctors and take medication when falling ill. As a result, many people died of delayed or no treatment, and a large number of people were driven into mental disorder. Some even became murderers themselves, killing their own children and parents and others. In China, Falun Gong is responsible for 1,700 deaths and more than 700 of cases of mental disorientation and self-injury in China.

Under these circumstances, no responsible government would turn a blind eye to a cult like Falun Gong. The Chinese government banned it in 1999.But to those ordinary practitioners, what the Government does is to free them, through education, from the control of the cult and to bring them back to the society and normal life. The Government's ban has prevented Falun Gong from causing more tragedies. The measures taken by the Chinese Government in dealing with the evil cult of Falun Gong has been made in strict accordance with the law and the measures precisely aimed at protecting and safeguarding the human rights of the greatest majority of the Chinese people. So the question of Falun Gong is not a question about human rights or freedoms, nor is it a question about the freedom of religious belief because Falun Gong is a downright, truly evil cult.

Here in Australia, there are a bunch of Falun Gong followers who have been long camping outside or in front of the Chinese Embassy in Canberra or Chinese consulates in other cities. They seriously impede the normal activities and operations of the Chinese Embassy and the consulates and infringe upon the dignity of the People's Republic of China. Moreover, there is a tendency recently that Falun Gong is turning increasingly violent. On March 8, Falun Gong demonstrators forced their way into the Chinese Consulate-General in Melbourne and rendered the daily work of the diplomatic mission impossible. This violent act is in clear violation of both the international law and Australian domestic laws andshould merit our attention and alert. We do hope Australian Government and people would highten their vigilance against the evil cult of Falun Gong and not allow Falun Gong followers to use Australian territories in engaging in illegal activities against China, so as to preserve their social security and stability and to prevent the on-going friendly and co-operative relations between China and Australia from being damaged in any way.
