China has won its first ever Olympic relay gold in short track speed skating, with the women's 3000-meter relay team moving up a spot to take gold after the South Korean team were disqualified at the Pacific Coliseum on Thursday.
The South Koreans, seeking their fifth consecutive title in the event, crossed the finish line first, but after several minutes of discussion among the referees, they were disqualified.
Team China, led by newly-crowned Olympic champions Wang Meng and Zhou Yang, rewrote the world record with a time of 4:06.610.
The victory breaks the dominance of South Koreans in the last four Olympic relays.
It was the fourth gold medal for China in the Vancouver Games, which moves the team up to the 9th place in the medals table.
Hosts Canada finished second, followed by Team USA in third.
