The Chinese mainland's first undersea tunnel has been finished after over four years of construction, according to a post dated Thursday on the website of People's Daily.
The 8,695-km tunnel is in Xiamen in East China's Fujian province. Designed and built entirely by Chinese, the tunnel's deepest part is 70 meters below the sea level. It will have a life span of 100 years and cut driving time between Xiamen Island and the Xiang'an District from 1.5 hours to eight minutes.
