An 82-year-old billionaire has built new apartment buildings for all the villagers in his hometown of Zijiahe Village in northwestern China's Shaanxi Province, the Beijing Daily reports.
Zijiahe Village lacks water because it is located in a desert area. Zi Guilin, a billionaire, suggested that the villagers move to another location beside a river and build a dam to prevent water loss and soil erosion.
To help local people begin their new life along the river, Zi donated large amounts of money to build 5,000-square-meter apartment buildings there, which contain a unit for every family in the village.
The money also is paying for the construction of local factories and the manufacture of plastic sheeting to cover vegetable.
After working as a teacher for more than 40 years, Zi retired and embarked on a career in coalfield development in 1993. After his enterprise thrived and he became a renowned billionaire, Zi decided to play an active role in work for the public good. He often donates money to people in need.
