Zhang Weidong’s wife Shen Chunsheng suffered from hypertension and diabetes during her lifetime, and died of diabetes on 4 August, 2011 at the age of 67. But according to Zhang Weidong, it’s not diabetes that killed his wife. He said, “It’s the Falun Gong cult that got her killed!”
Facing the camera, Zhang Weidong looked calm, but his tone revealed deep regrets and sadness for her wife as well as incomparable resentment against the cult Falun Gong.
Zhang Weidong is from Wugang city, Henan Province. In 1996, he accidentally strayed into the Falun Gong organization. With the gradual “upgrading of cultivation”, his “level” became so high that he was designated the head of the Falun Gong training station in Wugang city. Being highly valued in the Falun Gong organization, Zhang Weidong gained a sense of great achievement.
Before practicing Falun Gong, Shen Chunsheng lived in the countryside taking care of a land of more than ten acres and all members of the family, old and young. Although she shouldered the heavy burden of the family chores, she never complained about it. On the contrary, she was more optimistic and stronger than ever because of it. Before getting contact with Falun Gong cult, she was always in good health, but her fate was completely twisted after her husband fell into the trap of Falun Gong.
Zhang Weidong became quite obsessed with Falun Gong not long after he came into contact with it. The daily routine of group exercises and Dafa learning convinced him that Falun Gong was positive and beneficial and that his “Master” was the right one to follow and was right about everything. And that’s why he pulled his wife into the Falun Gong cult without hesitation as his “Master” claimed that one member in a family practicing Falun Gong would bring benefits to the whole family.
Like many deceived Falun Gong followers, the couple’s original intention was just to keep fit without even hearing of anything about Fa-principles or the so-called profundity and extraordinary divinity. But actually, “curing diseases and keeping fit” was just a disguise of Falun Gong to attract gullible followers who would never expect endless brainwashing torment was awaiting them in the name of “Dafa learning”.
Gradually, Shen Chunsheng became her “Master’s” tool and puppet in promoting “Dafa”, and the sensible and sober part of her mind was totally brainwashed away. In the end, the couple’s mind was filled with nothing but their “Master” and “Dafa”. In this way, they muddled along in the Falun Gong organization for two years, during which they firmly believed that they would never suffer from any diseases because of the fallacies preached by their “Master” that one practicing Falun Gong would never get sick.
With diligent daily cultivation, and under the constant protection of their “Master's Dharmakaya”, Shen Chunsheng believed she was already cleansed and purified by her “Master”, and then suffered from diabetes before she noticed. In 1998, Shen Chunsheng felt itchy constently and that was the forerunner of diabetes, but the couple failed to connect the symptom with diabetes because they firmly believed in their “Master” and Dafa.
Later, Shen Chunsheng’s illness was getting worse and worse, but they ignorantly took it as a test from their “Master” on practitioners. They indulged in the fantasy that they might be able to level up or even reach Consummation after the test. So they decided to stay at home to do the “Karma elimination” instead of taking any injection or medicine.
In the meantime, their children repeatedly proposed to take Shen Chunsheng to hospital for medical examination and treatment. But both Shen Chunsheng and Zhang Weidong rejected their requests. Even when Shen Chunsheng’s health condition got worse and worse, the couple still believed that the steady deterioration of her physical condition was the proof that their “Master” was helping to eliminate her Karma.
The “Karma elimination” did Shen Chunsheng no good but lost her weight day by day. When she was seriously ill, she even dared not step out of their house. The reason behind that was quite absurd: they regarded themselves as “Dafa disciples” and they were afraid that people might attribute her illness to her Falun Gong practice.
Their children couldn’t stand anymore, so they forcibly took Shen Chunsheng to hospital. After medical examinations, they were shocked by the fact that her urine sugar level was “+++”. Although Shen Chunsheng was badly ill, the couple still stubbornly believed that seeing doctors discredited Falun Gong. So Shen Chunsheng clamored to leave hospital and continue eliminating Karma at home. However, not only did the “test” from her “Master” fail to take her to a “higher level”, but also it deteriorated her health condition day by day.
In July 1999, the perverse cult Falun Gong was finally banned by the government according to law. And Li Hongzhi, the ringleader of Falun Gong fled abroad. But the couple was so obsessed with the fallacies of the cult,that they dared not discredit Falun Gong and kept struggling in the “Karma elimination” farce.
In 2000, persuaded by her children, Shen Chunsheng finally went to hospital once again. But actually, she agreed to do so for two reasons. Firstly, she could not stand the pain of her illness. Secondly, her husband, Zhang Weidong, gained new ideas from learning “Fa-principles” that should any misfortune happen to his wife, people would sneer at him and Falun Gong: So what good was there in believing in Falun Gong? Even the head of the Falun Gong training station wasn’t able to bless his family and make family members safe and sound. In that case, it would bring shame on the Master and his Dafa. In order to avoid all that, he believed that his “Master” would forgive any well-intentioned expediency on this special occasion. Therefore, for the sake of Dafa，he also urged Shen Chunsheng to go to hospital for treatment.
The medical treatment soon brought about positive results dramatically. During that period, Shen Chunsheng’s health conditions improved steadily with each passing day. But some fellow practitioners began to question her behavior, they believed that what Shen Chunsheng did was utterly heretical and against the “Fa-principles”. At the same time, induced by his “Master” Li Hongzhi, Zhang Weidong changed his mind and started to believe that it was the “last chance” for them to reach “Consummation”, which was a critical moment to test temperaments of “true cultivators”. Hence, he was convinced that they should strictly abide by the teachings of Master Li, and avoid further bringing shame on “Dafa”.
Therefore, in order not to “discredit” Falun Gong, Zhang Weidong spared no effort to persuade Shen Chunsheng to stop taking medicines. So, Shen Chunsheng did his bidding. But this time, when she was off the medicines, her health conditions worsened rapidly and slipped into comas frequently. In spite of the couple’s strong opposition, their children forcibly took Shen Chunsheng back to hospital many times, 6 times in total to be exact. So she had been to Wugang people's Hospital, Wuyang hospital, Pingdingshan hospital, and later to hospitals in Zhengzhou. Every time when her physical condition improved slightly, she would attribute it to the desired result of the Karma elimination and hurried to leave hospital. Once she got back home, she would continue to cultivate “Karma elimination” immediately.
Nevertheless, the party and the government didn’t give up on her, and anti-cult volunteers repeatedly visited their house to help them free themselves from shackles of cult mind control, hoping they could wake up from heretical ideas and deceptions of the Falun Gong as soon as possible. In 2010, at Wugang psychological counseling center, with the aid of anti-cult volunteers, Zhang Weidong finally learned the true nature of the Falun Gong cult, realizing it was the deceptive and bewitching Falun Gong cult that made him go astray and do absurd things consequently. At the same time, Shen Chunsheng also fully came back to her senses and agreed to receive proper medical treatment on her diabetes.
However, it was too late for them then. Just as Zhang Weidong said, “Shen Chunsheng was like an oil lamp that was bound to go out, because the lamp oil was exhausted long ago.” All kinds of medical treatments were used, but failed to save her life.
Zhang Weidong said, “It was me that misled her into the Falun Gong cult, this is the deepest scar in my heart! And I’ll regret it and hate myself for the rest of my life!”
