22 Falun Gong members arrested in Thailand

2008-02-14

22 Falun Gong practitioners in Bangkok were arrested over the Chinese New Year, sources from Bangkok Post on February 14.

13 Falun Gong practitioners were arrested during protests in front of the Chinese embassy in Bangkok.

Another nine people were reportedly also detained later that day while disseminating Falun Gong pamphlets.

Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Tharit Charungvat said he had no knowledge of the incident. "But if these people violate Thai law, the authorities have to enforce the law," he said.

Jakra Boon-long, the consul-general of Falun Gong in Los Angeles, threatened to the ministry this week that whenever there was an arrest of Falun Gong members in Thailand, there would be a small gathering in front of the Thai consulate office.
