Being man and wife, Liu Qunming and Du Yinhua were originally workers in the brewery of Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, and lived in a united dormitory in Yanxi Street. Being deeply obsessed with Falun Gong, the couple was reluctant to seek medical help after ill and died one after another before the age of sixty.

Both Liu Qunming and Du Yinhua began to practice Falun Gong in 1997, and to attract fellow practitioners to their home for cultivation, they specifically vacated the bigger one of the two narrow rooms for meditation and practicing Falun Gong. In the daytime, the fellow practitioners sat on a carpet for practicing Falun Gong, while in the evening the couple slept on it cushioning a quilt. In July, 1997, after the Government officially banned Falun Gong, the fellow practitioners no longer gathered at the home for cultivation, and then they began to hand out leaflets or put up slogans hither and thither at the instigation of Li Hongzhi.

Before the Spring Festival of 2001, the fellow practitioners felt strange that Du Yinhua had not showed up to hand out leaflets. Her neighbors disclosed that some lumps had been found on Du’s breast. But the fellow practitioners still saw no justifiable reasons for her “inactive” behavior. In the summer of 2001, the lumps on Du Yinhua’s left breast got putrefied like rotten cauliflower, dripping ichor and releasing rank smell which could be reached the moment you stepped into her corridor. Nevertheless, she still persisted in practicing Falun Gong and refusing to see a doctor. Zheng Guiying, her fellow practitioner, would perform meditation for two hours while watching her every day to provide her with spiritual support. When not in pain, Du Yinhua would read the scriptures, but once got in a bad way, the ache caused her extreme pain: she could neither sit nor lay down on bed. Putting two armchairs together where she could only lay on her side, Du clenched her teeth and resolved to hold out, moaning and groaning ceaselessly.

Liu Cuiyun, Liu Qunming’s sister, couldn’t put up with the situation. She took Du to hospital for physical examination by force, and found out that her sister suffering from a terminal breast cancer. However, Du Yinhua’s family members including her husband Liu Qunming and daughter Liu Hui were all obsessed with Falun Gong, holding for certain that Master Li Hongzhi’s words was all truth, and that Du should not take medicine, neither should she seek any medical help even though she was in such a critical condition. At last, Du Yinhua died painfully at the age of 50 at home on September 21, 2001.

Just like his wife, Liu Qunming attached great importance to practicing Falun Gong, worshipping Li Hongzhi as “the sovereign God” and doing everything in the light of Master’s demands. After the Government outlawed Falun Gong, Liu Qunming still handed out leaflets and posted banners secretly in defiance of laws. Liu Qunming was punished by the local public security authorities for disturbing public order, but later he was bailed out due to being diagnosed as tuberculosis in a physical examination. Curing tuberculosis is free of charge in China, but Liu Qunming took no medicine and sought no medical treatment, persisting that Falun Gong could “eliminate karma”. He trusted nobody but Master Li Hongzhi, and he totally denied hospitalization arranged by the government, and continued his wandering outside, engaged in what they termed “the three things”.

After his wife died of breast cancer in 2001, a dim idea once flashed across Liu Qunming’s mind. “Well, my wife cultivated so hard and did everything as Master has told her whole-heartedly, but how come that my wife got that kind of disease and died of it painfully?” At the same time, Liu thought that Master Li Hongzhi had neither protected his wife nor himself as Li promised. Otherwise, why should I be afflicted with tuberculosis? But Liu dared not think too much and cast too many doubts on Master, he deemed that there was still something wrong with his own cultivation and then devoted himself into practicing heart and soul again.

Practitioner: Liu Qunming

Although Liu Qunming believed in Falun Gong single-mindedly, his illness was from bad to worse constantly. Suffering from tuberculosis for years, he neither went to hospital nor took medicine, and turned out to be a bag of bones for leading no disciplinary life and lacking of nutrition.

Ultimately, Liu Qunming died of tuberculosis at the age of 58 on October 27, 2009.
