At 9:00 a.m. on July 20, 2009, heavy smoke rolled up from the window of Room 21-503 in Tiandajiayuan residential area in Hailing District, Taizhou City, China's east of Jiangsu Province. This abnormal condition caught pedestrians'attention. When people looked up at the window, a man appeared and jumped off it, crashing to the ground heavily to death. Some fire fighters opened the door of room 503 in few minutes and found an elderly woman lyingin a pool of blood with several stabs in the body. The woman was pronounced dead after being sent to hospital for rescue.
The man committing suicide was named Liu Yong, male, born in 1970 in Hailing District, Taizhou City. The woman who was stabbed was the mother of Liu Yong's ex-wife. According to the police investigation, the process of the incident, that Liu Yong killed his ex-wife's mother, burnt the room and then committed suicide by jumping off the building, was clear. But why did Liu Yong kill the old woman and then kill himself? What was the truth?
Liu Yong was diagnosed with hepatitis B in 1998. Hearing that practicing Falun Gong could cure all diseases without medicine and injections, he began to practice Falun Gong in early 1999. His hepatitis B wasn't cured by the practice, but he was attracted by Falun Gong theories about being "Buddha, Taoist and God"and was obsessed with them.
Soon after, Falun Gong was banned by the State. Liu Yong didn't go out like most addicts to "clarify the truth", he stayed at home practicing secretly instead. He just broke away from the group ostensibly. He always hid himself to practice, neither contacted with other practitioners nor communicated with his family, which affected Liu Yong's mind greatly. He became bigoted and gloomy. On one hand, he took himself as a cultivator and a cut above others, and couldn't accept anyone's advice and blame. On the other hand, he was scared of being found out to practice Falun Gong, so he was in a closed and tense state all the time, which made him become self-contemptuous, sensitive and irritable. After visiting his neighbors and colleges, I found that almost everyone was afraid to contact with him. Most people's comment about him was "he is a lunatic." In 2008, when several of his colleagues were chatting, Liu Yong hit one of colleagues for supposing the colleague was laughing at his practice.
In May 2003, due to the appeal of his families and covering the truth that he still practiced Falun Gong, 34-year-old Liu Yong married Ms. Jiang through his sister after contacting for less than five month. Ms. Jiang was not a local person, so she didn't know much about Liu Yong. The family life after marriage had a great influence on Liu Yong. For fear of being found he practiced Falun Gong by his wife, he had stayed at home for practicing and hadn't been to work for long time, which caused his hate to his wife. Liu Yong thought she was the devil who blocked his cultivation, so he became rough on his wife increasingly. Ms. Jiang said that during the past years with Liu Yong, he behaved strangely, had a bad temper and beat and scolded her frequently, even during her pregnant period. Sometimes he beat her with a stick or a chair. Once he bit her face without rhyme or reason. Being driven beyond forbearance, Ms. Jiang filed a suit for divorce to the local court and they divorced in May 2008. Their legitimate son lived with Liu Yong.
After divorce, Ms. Jiang paid the maintenance of 300 Yuan every month. She picked up her son for every weekend and sent him back to Liu's home on Monday. On October 17, 2009, Ms. Jiang's mother came to Taizhou to visit her daughter and grandson from her homeland. She missed her grandson so much that she didn't let him go back on Monday (October 19). Ms. Jiang then told Liu Yong's mother about this by telephone.
On the morning of October 20, Liu Yong's mother found Liu was not at home, so she called Ms. Jiang to ask if Liu went for her. Ms. Jiang felt upset after getting the call, so she telephoned her current boyfriend and asked him to go back home to have a look. About 9 o'clock, the terrible news came and the tragedy at the beginning of this article occurred.
In fact, Ms. Jiang's mother rarely comes to Taizhou, there isn't deep hatred between Liu Yong and Ms. Jiang's mother. It's unreasonable to say that Liu's killing is due to the mother urged the grandson to stay for one more day, because this situation also happened before. All the things become mysterious as Liu Yong's suicide.
The case about Liu Yong reminds me of some names forgotten by people as Guan Shuyun, Fu Yibin, Liu Chunling, each of which has a story of blood and tears. I suddenly realize it's not difficult to understand the reason for Liu's murder-suicide. Liu Yong and everyone mentioned above all have a soul twisted by Falun Gong fallacies.
