In early November, the writer paid a visit to Israel with a cultural industrial survey group. Rev. Dr. Mary Wei from the Heavenly Jerusalem, a Christian Church, escorted us during the trip. Mary had lived in Israel for eight years. She made introduction of the history, culture, economy and religions of Israel. During the trip, she performed the responsibilities of a priest, keeping on preaching to us. She also expressed her opinions on heretical cults. On November 7, we had a dialogue as following:

The Writer: Mary. I appreciated your introduction about religions, especially about the Christian religion. You said, “The God is everywhere.” Please forgive me for taking the liberty to ask a question. If you feel offended, you may refuse to answer.

Mary: Ok. Please.

The writer: Let’s imagine: one day, a person stands up and says that he is the God or the son of the God or an envoy of the God and even preaches with a Bible in his hands. But his understanding is different from yours. As a pious Christian, what is your opinion about this person? Should we trust him? How can we know whether his remarks are true or false?

Mary: You are not the first to ask the question. This question had been asked by a lot of people from ancient times to the present. In fact, we may meet some people who claim that he/she is the God or a prophet. Maybe they are our neighbors or a kid in our neighborhood. There had been such people in every historical period, including Jesus and Mohamed. Then how should we make our own choice or judgment? I believe that when the God created the human beings, he enabled everybody to make judgment. Everybody is able to make his own choice. More importantly, everybody has to be responsible for his own choice.

The writer: What shall we do if the person who claimed to be the God asks those who believe in him/her to do something that may violate common sense or even bring harm to other people’s life or properties?

Mary: What you said is about instigation. The laws have established that in the cases involving instigation, anyone who violates laws should be punished more heavily while the abettors should be given lighter punishment or even be exempted from punishment

The writer: Let me be more specific. Falun Gong leader Li Hongzhi claimed that he was the supreme God and instigated his disciples to refuse medical treatment, to get rid of emotion, and to abandon their family. As a result, a lot of people have abandoned their family members, ruined their families or even lost their life. Is Li Hongzhi guilty? Should he be exempted from punishment?

Mary: As to your question about Li Hongzhi, the Bible had offered conclusion. Even if governments in the human world let him go, the God would bring him to the hell. I cannot think out any punishment tougher than this one. Li Hongzhi advocated the tenets about truthfulness, forbearance and compassion. These are universal values. But he did not take them as his principles. On the contrary, he required his disciples to do this or to do that. He was just making use of them, or deceiving them. I like to emphasize that such people, if they do not feel regretful, will be doomed to the hell.

The writer: Are there any Falun Gong organizations in Israel?

Mary: Yes, there are. They often organized activities in the vicinity of the Embassy. But I never looked at them. None of our Christians responded them. Falun Gong is not just heterodoxy. It is a heretical cult indeed.
