My name is Li Xueying. I am a farmer from Dongguo Village, Xin`an Town, Wuyang County in Henan Province. My husband is Guo Yuanqing who was born on 15th Oct, 1955 was one year older than me. He was an upright and honest man.
My husband was diagnosed with high blood pressure and heart disease. One day in September in 1998, he was hospitalized due to a sudden high blood pressure. During treatment, his friend named Ma came to see him and persuaded him to practice Falun Gong, saying that practicing could not only keep healthy but no longer depend on medicine and injection. As long as keep practicing Falun Gong, disease could be healed automatically. His words triggered my husband’s curiosity. Mr. Ma also gave him a book name Zhuan Falun when he left.
For this reason, my husband kept learning and researching every day in the room. After a while, he was attracted by all the statements in Zhuan Falun, plus his regular practice and exercise, he even felt better and healthier than before. He thought he was lucky to find the ‘true essence of life’. In order to show devotion to the Master, he even put up Li Hongzhi’s photo, prayed in front of it every day, and said that he would listen to the Master’s arrangement and concentrate on practicing.
My husband was the backbone of our family and I also depended on him for the rest of my life. Therefore, our wish was his good health and happiness. My husband did not smoke, drink or gamble, he also did not have any hobby. I thought if practicing Falun Gong could keep him healthy, it did not matter. I even created conditions for him to practice. At that time, he read Zhuan Falun every day, learned earnestly and event took notes. He always explained the ‘essence’ in Zhuan Falun and the Master’s ‘scriptures’ to family members and relatives, saying that ‘Falun Da Fa’ was the real ‘doctrine of the universe’, practicing Falun Gong could help people ‘eliminate karma’, ‘reach higher level’ and ‘bless the whole family if one member practices’. One could also ‘become immortal and Buddha’ and ‘go to heaven’ to enjoy ‘the heaven’. He told everyone he met that he found ‘a way to the paradise’ and persuaded them to join the practicing team.
Neighbors and relatives said to me one by one, ‘what happened to Mr. Guo? He is secretive and always says something irrelevant. Haven’t he gone mad?’ I persuaded him not to be addicted to it and believed in it because there was no disease that could be cured without medicine and injection. ‘Achieving consummation’, ‘becoming immortal and Buddha’ and ‘enjoying the paradise’ could only happen in fairy tale. Although practicing may be good to health, people should still go to hospital when they are sick. He was very angry after hearing what I said and told me that ‘you are just a woman and cannot understand. The Master said that if people want to avoid the torture by life and disease, they need to practice Falun Gong in order to eliminate karma to achieve consummation. You are an ordinary people with ambitions. You are vulgar and cannot understand the secret of Buddhist doctrine, let alone understand the Master’s supernatural power. You do not have the fate to meet the Master.’
My husband was obsessed in practicing and learning Falun Gong. He bought all the books and disks related to Falun Gong and spent almost all the money which supposed to pay his treatment. Falun Gong related books and disks piled up in our home and the numbers are countless. He also collected lot posters, photos of Li Hongzhi and practice uniforms. In addition, he always went to Falun Gong study class, communicated with other practitioners when he got time and exchanged learning experiences. He did not care our persuasion and did what he wanted.
The Chinese government banned Falun Gong in July 1999 which had a big influence on my husband. He did not give up practicing whatsoever, saying that Falun Gong promoted ‘Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance’, taught people to be compassionate and kind. He also said that Falun Gong was a great practice which was misunderstood by the government. He kept practicing and learning at home secretly to show his loyalty to the Master, expecting the Master could see and protect the disciples. I could not stand anymore and threw all the photos of Master. Unexpectedly, my husband slapped on my face and yelled to me, ‘get out of here. I warn you, if you ever do that, I will divorce you. You prevent me practicing, you are the devil.’ I had enough of it and packed my things and lived with my daughter.
However, his earnest learning of Falun Gong and practicing came to no good. Before, as long as paying attention to diet, taking medicine regularly, going to hospital to check and keeping health maintenance, he was not that sick. Having high blood pressure and heart disease for so many years, he had not been very sick. However, after beginning practicing Falun Gong, he refused to go to hospital and take medicine which led to a high blood pressure, dizziness, short of breath, and chest distress and pain. Sometimes, he was so painful that he was even rolling on the bed. Friends and relatives all persuaded him to go to hospital, saying that it was the high blood pressure complications that led to the heart disease and the disease could not be delayed. He would not go to hospital even though everyone was persuading him. I was worried and anxious and even asked his parents for help. His parents kneeled down in front of him and said, ‘Qing, we need to believe in sciences and doctors. We should go to hospital…’ My husband said, ‘it will disobey the Master if I go to hospital, which will lead to the increase of karma. Seeing doctor cannot cure the disease, and if I go to hospital, I would not be the true practitioner of the Master…’ He also said, ‘I have Falun inside my body so that the Master will protect me…’ He always criticized himself for not practicing enough, not grasping the ‘essence’ of the ‘Fa’, not improving to the higher level so that his disease could not be cured. He believed that as long as concentrating on practicing, the Master would help him eliminate the ‘karma’ inside his body and protect him. We were so sad and cried all day long.
What I worried about was finally happened. I went to the farm field in the morning of 17th of May, 2000. When I came back, I found there was blood full of his mouth. He looked pale and the body was stiff. On his chest was the photo of Li Hongzhi. I was panicked and called the ambulance to send him to People’s Hospital in the County. The doctor told me that patient like my husband who had high blood pressure and heart disease could life longer if keep taking medicine and regular treatment. The sudden heart attack was caused by a large area of brain angiorrhexis which caused by blood pressure increase. It was the result of not taking medicine for a long time. The doctors could do nothing to save him.
My husband who always thinking that he was lucky to find the ‘true essence of life’, who devoted himself to practicing Falun Gong left us in this kind of way. He was only 58 years old when he died and he could not wait for the Master’s protection at the last second of his life.
