[Kaiwind.com, June 30, 2015, Reporter: Yi Hang] According to a report published by news agency InterFax, in Izevsk (the capital city of the Udmurt Republic, Russia; It is the economic and cultural center of the country and a main center of AK-47 production) on June 10, 2015, the Information Service Office, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Udmurt Republic, announced that anti-extremism police and the military anti-espionage police, under the Federal Security Service, had jointly prevented a leading member of Falun Gong, a cult banned in China, from carrying out activities in the city.

The 29-year-old man was arrested for violating Article 282-1 of the Criminal Code (crime defined as actions aimed at the incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as abasement of human dignity). The man stood trial and confessed everything about his crime. He also showed remorse for his actions.

The cult had expanded its operation to Udmurt Republic in 2005 and its followers often held public gatherings.

The Information Service said in the announcement, “Due to his obsession with Falun Gong, the suspect formed some twisted concepts about the positions and roles that social and religious organizations should play in society and in the country. He showed contempt for society and the country. As a result, he opposed generally accepted social norms and values and showed obvious hostility toward the norms and values. ”

The man set up a website for the branch of Falun Gong in Izevsk, and uploaded electronic versions of Falun Gong books to the website. The books were believed to include teachings that may incite social and religious conflicts. Police also confiscated other books that have been listed as extremist materials from his residence.

Falun Gong was banned as a cult in China in 1999 due to the vast number of reports about its followers developing mental diseases, committing suicide, refusing medical treatment out of their belief in “eliminating disasters with supernatural powers”, and violating the Constitution.
