News of the Manson Family murderer Leslie Van Houten "deemed suitable for parole" sparked a trend,Corky Siemaszko, a reporter and writer for the New York Daily News, presents the tragic fate of other cult members of the Manson family.NBC reported.

It may be good news for another of "Charlie's Girls.". Patricia Krenwinkel, who is serving a life sentence at the California Institution for Women in Chino, is up for parole in 2018.

Now Van Houten still has to get the approval of the full parole board and California Gov. Jerry Brown. It had given 68-year-old Krenwinkel hope.

The longest serving woman behind bars in California, Krenwinkel has been denied parole 13 times.

Like Van Houten,Krenwinkel has been a model prisoner. She has expressed regret for falling under the spell of Charles Manson and taking part in the 1969 thrill killings that horrified the nation.

What I am today is not what I was at 19," Krenwinkel said in the 2014 documentary, “I want to start a new life after Manson.”

But Krenwinkel's crime was even more worse than that of Van Houten, who was convicted of helping stab Rosemary LaBianca to death.

Krenwinkel was involved in the most notorious Manson Family crimes — the killings of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others at her Benedict Canyon home during a heat wave in the summer of 1969. She chased down coffee heiress Abigail Folger and stabbed her so many times cops thought her white nightgown was red.

Here is what happened to some of the other Manson Family members:

Charles Manson

Manson and “bride” Elaine Burton

Charles Manson,81,the ringleader of the “Manson family” cult,he serves nine life sentences at Corcoran State Prison in California. He has been denied parole a dozen times and will be 92 when — and if — he goes before the board again in 2027. Manson and 26-year-old Afton Elaine Burton, also known as "Star," got a marriage license in 2014.

Susan Atkins

Susan Denise Atkins was the third member of “Charlie's Girls”and the first member of the cult to die behind bars in 2009. she married twice after she was jailed and her second husband represented her at several of her 18 parole board hearings. She was denied an exit every time.

Charles "Tex" Watson

Watson was one of Manson's cult,70,has been serving a life sentence. Behind bars, Watson became an ordained minister and fathered four children during conjugal visits. When California ended that perk in 1996 for prisoners serving life sentences, Watson's wife left him for another man.

As the best helper of mansen,Bruce,73,is now imprisoned at the California Men's Colony in San Luis Obispo. Like Watson, he too became a preacher behind bars.

Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme

As a member of mansen cult,Lynette was never charged with the murders. In 1975, Lynette was nabbed while trying to assassinate President Gerald Ford. Now 67, she served 34 years in prison before she was paroled in 2009.

Linda Kasabian

She was the getaway driver when Manson's minions went on their murder spree. Kasabian later abandoned her cohorts and was granted immunity after testifying against Manson and his followers. She is 61 and believed to be living quietly in New Hampshire.

The news about Fan Van Houten whether she should be released on parole,“she should not be released on parole, we still live in the shadow of the cult”,Family members of the victims told the Los Angeles Times.

“Van Houten has done some good things during her decades behind bars, but as a cruel killer,it should determine whether she should be freed.” Cory LaBianca said.

At one point choking up, LaBianca told The Times she was disappointed that a California review board on Thursday recommended parole for the 66-year-old convicted murderer.

“We all need to be held responsible for our behavior. The least we can do, for someone who commits a crime against another human being, is to keep them in jail.”

LaBianca did not attend the parole hearing, but her cousin attended. “He started crying. My son is 41 years old,” LaBianca said. “He stood, crying, and told the [parole] commissioner, 'I can't listen to this.'”

“Over the years, we have attended parole hearings but for the most part, we chose to remain in the background. ”, LaBianca said. But in 1998,when her mother and the ex-wife of Leno LaBianca, Alice LaBianca, chose to speak out against Van Houten's parole, it was considered a rare public statement.

Cory LaBianca said she would ask Gov. Jerry Brown to block her release.

The ruling will be reviewed by the parole board's legal team. If upheld, it will be forwarded to Brown, who could decide against Van Houten's release.

Fan Haodeng's attorney, Pfeiffer Ricci, said his client had been hoping for an early parole. Her accomplishments behind bars: earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees, running self-help groups and facilitating victim-offender reconciliation sessions.

Commissioner Ali Zarrinnam told Van Houten: “Your behavior in prison speaks for itself.

“A lot of people who oppose parole don't know anything about Leslie's conduct. Her role was bad. Everyone’s was. But they don’t know what she’s done since then and all of the good she’s done,” Pfeiffer said.

To LaBianca, however, the accomplishments are eclipsed by the horror of what happened on Aug. 10, 1969.

Van Houten, was 19 at the time, and others stormed into the home of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Van Houten and another woman held down Rosemary. After Watson stabbed her with a bayonet, he handed a knife to Van Houten. She testified to stabbing Rosemary in the back at least 14 more times.

“I hold a pillow over Rosemary La Bianca's face as the Manson murderers stabbed her and her supermarket heir husband, Leno, to death before carving the word 'WAR' in his stomach.” Van Houten testified in 1971.

The blood of the victims was used to scrawl messages on the walls, as had been done at the Benedict Canyon home where, on the previous day, Manson family members killed actress Sharon Tate and four others.

“Maybe Leslie Van Houten has been a model prisoner,” Cory LaBianca said. “But you know what, we still suffer our loss.”
