My name is Sun Yuxia, and I live in Xicheng District, Beijing. My mother, Han Shufang, was a retired sanitation worker who lost her life due to practicing Falun Gong and seeking the so-called completeness.
After my mother retired in 1994, she was found to have an excessively high pulse and high blood pressure during her physical examination. At that time, the diseases weighed heavily on her. In addition to seeing a doctor and taking medicine for treatment, she studied qigong to cure her heart disease, high blood pressure and other ailments.
One day in 1997, my mother was exposed to Falun Gong at Zhongshan Park. After she returned home, she told us excitedly, “Today at Zhongshan Park I learned a new Qigong called Falun Gong. I was told that practitioners no longer need to take medicine and all the karma of illnesses will be eliminated by the Master, Li Hongzhi. The practitioners will not suffer from any illness and those who cultivate well will realize completeness and fly to Heaven to become immortal.” Hearing her words, my father felt it was weird and looked through the book of Falun Gong, only to become more confused. He told my mother, “It will be good if you get cured by practicing it. As to completeness and becoming immortal, it is nothing but non-sense. Yet my mother said, “People say Li Hongzhi is the lord Buddha in the universe and he comes to the earth to save us. I am convinced and I will practice it hard so as to realize completeness as soon as possible.”
My mother, after practicing Falun Gong, stopped her treatment for high blood pressure and heart disease according to the requirements of Li Hongzhi. Seeing this situation, my father and I repeatedly advised my mother to resume medical treatment to help stabilize the condition, but she just ignored us.
At 5:00 in the morning, my mother got up to practice with other followers. After returning home, she would read Dharmacakra. As my mother had little schooling, she had to refer to the dictionary to read it. After learning it for a long time, she could even recite some of the paragraphs. My mother devoted herself to Falun Gong and overlooked the housework. She no longer took care of the children, nor did she pick up my daughter after school. I was confused.
On the evening of April.24, 1999, Aunt Yang told my mother that she received information that all practitioners should go to the Complaint Bureau of the State Council in the morning of the 25th to defend Falun Gong. According to the Master, it was the last chance to realize completeness. My mother was so excited that the long-awaited completeness was to be realized. The next morning, they went to Fuyou Street and stood in front of the Complaint Bureau of the State Council until mid-night. After that, she continued practicing Falun Gong, yet she was anxious for the time of completeness to come.
Yet that time of completeness didn’t come. In July 1999, Falun Gong was banned by the government. During that period of time, affected by other followers, my mother had a strong mood of resistance. When my father tried to persuade her to abandon Falun Gong, she threatened to leave home. Seeing that, my father and I could do nothing but give tacit approval for her to practice it at home.
However, as my mother studied Falun Gong diligently to rise to higher levels and seek completeness, Aunt Yang died from myocardial infarction. Aunt Yang also suffered from high heart rate and high blood pressure. After she started practicing Falun Gong in December 1996, she no longer took medicine to maintain stable blood pressure. She often told my mother, “Our practitioners are protected by the Master and will have all of our diseases eliminated.” Aunt Yang practiced Falun Gong for four years , but instead of being protected or realizing completeness, she died unfortunately.
Yet the death of Aunt Yang didn’t arouse the alertness of my mother. Despite her illnesses, she blindly refused to seek medical treatment. She ignored our warnings and said, “The Master asked us to be single-minded, otherwise we will not be able to realize completeness.”
After less than five years practicing Falun Gong, I found her physical conditions going from bad to worse. I asked her how she felt and she told me that she had stomachaches and felt sick from time to time. What’s more, she felt weak all the time. When I asked her to see the doctors, she was greatly frightened and refused, “I will not go to the hospital. According to the Master, taking medicine accumulates karma and we will be destroyed in the end. My Master will eliminate the karma for me and you just leave me alone.”
As my mother didn’t carry out systematic and targeted treatment for her heart diseases, she suffered heart problems more frequently, which were accompanied with pain in the chest and left shoulder and dyspnea. Seeing his wife suffering great pain and refusing to see the doctor, my father was heartbroken and constantly tried to persuade her to go to the hospital. Yet my mother just quoted from Li Hongzhi, “As the Master said, one must concentrate on practicing Falun Gong and not take any medicine. Otherwise, he or she will not be able to realize completeness. My high blood pressure is due to karma in the previous life and I have to practice Falun Gong to eliminate the karma and become immortal.”
I felt anxious for my mother’s condition and constantly tried to persuade her to go to the hospital for examination. I said to her, “Mom, if people do not need to take medicine to be cured, then what are hospitals for? Don’t listen to the non-sense of Li Hongzhi, otherwise you will be delayed in treatment.” Yet she replied, “What is my purpose for practicing Falun Gong? I do it for the blessing of our family. My diseases are due to karma in my previous life and I have to practice Falun Gong to eliminate the karma.”
However, in the morning of June 4, 2009, when my mother was studying Falun Gong at home, she suddenly fell unconscious, resulting in a fracture of her left arm. I found her and sent her to Fengsheng Hospital. After rescue, she came to herself, yet she could not speak clearly. When she found that she was in hospital, she struggled to stand up but was too weak. I heard her saying that she would like to go home. Seeing that, I said to her, “Mom, this time you are severely sick and the doctor said you must be treated in hospital.”
After examination, my mother was found to have suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, but luckily it was in a small area. Yet it is not easy for the elderly to recover from a fracture. After careful treatment in hospital for over three months, my mother gradually recovered. She begged us to take her home, and we agreed in the end.
Despite her weak physical conditions, my mother kept reading books of Falun Gong, as she thought it a betrayal of her Master for having been hospitalized for 3 months. She was afraid that Li Hongzhi no longer helped her eliminate karma. Thus she wanted to make up for the loss.
Unfortunately, one night in April the next year, my mother suffered a cerebral hemorrhage again and died. In this way, she sacrificed her life on the way to realizing completeness.
I was grieved for the death of mother and sad for her stupidity. I hate Li Hongzhi and the vicious Falun Gong.
