2018-07-03 Author:Hu Xuzuo

Some anti-cult volunteers visited Li Shixius home in Jingdong Economic and Technology Development Zone in the south of Yuxi Township in Zhangyi County, Hunan Province. They took rice, cooking oil and subsidies to this family which owed its poverty to a cult. This is the epitome of the anti-cult volunteer activities in this county.

The anti-cult volunteer team in this county was created on June 10, 2014. Under the leadership of the Cult Prevention and Treatment Office of the CPC Zhangyi County Committee, this team has more than 500 members, including anti-cult cadres, members of families affected by cults, and volunteers. This team often organizes anti-cult education activities, distributes anti-cult materials, collects the cases of cult-related harm, accepts the reports on cult activities, and offers psychological counseling for misled cult practitioners. To date, this team has organized 16 anti-cult education activities in the countryside and three anti-cult cultural and art publicity activities, collected seven pieces of information about the practitioners of Church of the Almighty God, visited seven families thrust into poverty by cults to provide assistance, and helped five former practitioners of Church of the Almighty God overcome psychological troubles.

Li Shixius family is typical of those families that have fallen victim to the Church of the Almighty God. Her daughter-in-law, as an active practitioner, often travels to other regions with no heed to family issues, her husband or children. She took no responsibility for their parents and children. Her son died of level-4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) attributed to his depressing life and enduring melancholy. As a result, the granddaughter and grandson have to be supported by 72-year-old Li Shixiu and her husband, who make a living by mending shoes. The anti-cult volunteers gave condolence money and objects to her family. One anti-cult volunteer offered to support the grandson who is studying as a junior secondary school student and cover his tuition until he graduates from junior secondary school.
