On January 23, 2001, the self-burning tragedy of seven Falun Gong practitioners took place in Tian'anmen Square, which caused two deaths and three injuries. However, Li Hongzhi and its Falun Gong organization still didn't admit publicly that these people were Falun Gong practitioners. How about the recent situation of these Falun Gong practitioners after four years? Our reporters went to Henan province and interviewed them.
Narrator: Many audiences may remember that on Jan. 23, 2001, the New Year's Eve in Chinese lunar calendar, some obsessing Falun Gong followers burned themselves on Tian'anmen Square, which startled the whole country. These people are Hao Hunjun, Chen Guo, Liu Siying, Wang Jindong, Liu Chunling, Liu Yunfang and Liu Baorong. Among them Liu Yunfang and Liu Baorong didn't set fire, while Liu Chunling was killed on the spot and her daughter, the 12-year-old Liu Chunyinng died after salvaging in full sail.
After the incident, Liu Yunfang, Wang Jindong and Xue Hongjun were sentenced separately. Hao Huijun and Chen Guo were crippled for the rest of their lives and cannot take care of themselves. After the self-burning incident, the organization of Falun Gong denied that they were Falun Gong practitioners. Then let's take a look at the obsessing extent of these Falun Gong practitioners after the fire was extinguished.
Hao Huijun (one participator of self-burning): Every words of the Master said is Fa. We will follower what he said and there would be nothing wrong.
Wang Juan (the daughter of Wang Jindong, former Falun Gong practitioner): He is the follower of Dafa. Dafa creates everything and there would be nothing without Dafa.
Narrator: It's not difficult to find that these people were practitioners obsessed with Falun Gong according to the fact. However, although Li Hongzhi knew clearly that they were Falun Gong practitioners; he dared not to admit it publicly since the tragedy truly reflected the cult essence of Falun Gong.
Wang Juan: At that time I treated this incident according to the lection and the standard of a practitioner, not the normal reasoning. To a normal person, he would be heart-struck if there is something bad happenning to his family member, let alone his family member is burned like that.
Liu Yunfang: I was so obsessed at that time that I even admired the courage of Liu Siying, the little child who was defending Dafa of Li Hongzhi by burning herself.
Reporter: Did you have the emotion of common humanism?
Liu Yunfang: No. There was nothing like that after practicing Falun Gong.
Narrator: However, the government and the society did not discriminate these Falun Gong practitioners who had lost humanism after rescuing them from the fire. On the countrary, the government and the society gave them love and affection.
Wang Jindong (one of the self-burning participators): My fingers were conglutinated together after skin grafting. However, the leaders of the prison were concerned about my injury and arrange operation for me. I had the operation last June.
Reporter: How many operations did you have during the whole treatment process?
Wang Jindong: I had so many operations in Beijing; moreover, I had operations here.
Reporter: Did you have the operation in your hand after you arrived at Zhenzhou?
Wang Jindong: Yes, last June.
Reporter: Last year?
Wang Jindong: Yes.
Reporter: Did the treatment last for four years?
Wang Jindong: Yes, it was never interrupted.
Xue Hongjun (organizer of self-burning): We did such a bad thing which brought harms to our country, our Party and government, we cannot forgive ourselves. However, our country did not abandon us. She takes care of our lives, emotion and mental changes, and she takes care of those sickish people meticulously.
Narrator: The warmth of the government and the society is totally contrary to the cruelty of Falun Gong. The self-burning incident on Tian'anmen Square made more people to recognize the cruelty of the Cult, and once the essence of Cult was recognized by people,the cult will lose a lot of people. Therefore, Falun Gong organization had to deny that these people were Falun Gong practitioners.
Xue Hongjun: Although Li Hongzhi denied that the people participated the "1.23" self-burning incident were Falun Gong practitioners, he cannot deny the reality.
Reporter: Practitioners like you should be senior practitioners, isn't it? You had practiced since 1994.
Xue Hongjun: According to Li Hongzhi, I should be an old practitioner.
Narrator: Under the mental control of Li Hongzhi, these Falun Gong obsessed people abandoned affection and lives for Falun Gong. After the Party and the government began to take care of and educate them four years ago, now all of these people have broken away from the organization of Falun Gong and changed so much physically and mentally. Let's check the recent situation of these people by nearer interviews.
After her criminal sentence was exempted, Liu Baorong retired and rested at home. She was unwilling to mention past events. In respecting of her will, we invited her neighbor to introduce her situation.
Xu Shenzhen (the neighbor of Liu Baorong): I can sum up the present life of Liu Baorong with four "good", which are good emotion, good mood, good health and good life.
Narrator: Wang Jindong, who was obsessed with the Cult, decided to burn himself leaving alone his mother, his wife and daughter. Now, the best comfort for him is to take a look at the photos of his family members, and he misses his old mother very much.
Reporter: What do you think when looking at these photos?
Wang Jindong: I feel sorry to my mother, and I feel sorry to my relatives.
Reporter: Feeling sorry to your relatives?
Wang Jindong: Yes.
Reporter: It seems that the warmth of family infect you so much.
Wang Jindong: Yes.
Reporter: When you see the photos, do you miss your passed life, which are full of affection?
Wang Jindong: I miss it very much. I think I will cherish it more than before when I get out.
Narrator: Wang's family lives a good life. His daugher has a good job, and has gotten married. Wang Jindong has a grandson. All the family has full hope for the future.
Reporter: He will return to the society after getting out of the prison. As his family members, do you have confidences towards his future life?
Wang Haihua (the wife of Wang Jindong, as well as a former Falun Gong practitioners): I am confident. Wang Jindong is confident too. He told me, "Just wait for me. Your lives will be hard these years. But I will make money after I get out, I will do business." He wrote to me, "If one day I can buy a car, I will take you to a journey."
Narrator: The mother and daughter Hao Huijun and Chen Guo, who were seriously burned and lost their self-care abilities, were accommodated in a welfare institute. And there are professional nurses who take care of their lives. At present, Hao Huijun is ready to write a book, while Chen Guo practices calligraphy and computer skills everyday. Moreover, they are cultivating a flock of rabbits and chicken and they are enjoying the happy life of ordinary people.
Reporter: Do you take care of all the matters in their lives?
Li Qiuyun (nurse): Yes.
Reporter: How about the mental state of them?
Li Qiuyun: Not bad. Both of them are not bad.
Reporter: Do you have problems in communication with them?
Li Qiuyun: No problems. Xiao Guo and teacher Hao are very easy-going.
Reporter: Do you mainly take care of their lives?
Li Qiuyun: I mainly take care of washing, cooking and all the housework.
Narrator: In his spare time, Xue Hongjun engages himself in researching "steamed stuffed-bun with soup", which is a famous kind of fastfood of Kaifeng City. His purpose is to make full preparations for his return to the society, which clearly shows his expectations to the future life.
Xue Hongjun (the organizer of self-burning): I know a lot about the directions for producing "steamed stuffed-bun with soup".
Reporter: A lot?
Xue Hongjun: Yes.
Reporter: You have made notes in this notebook, haven't you?
Xue Hongjun: This is about how to make a living after I get out of the prison. Besides, I feel very sorry for the harms I brought to the country and the government before as I was obsessed with the Cult. And I want to do something beneficial to the society and to other people. I think it will be a way to redeem my sins.
Reporter: How about your researching product?
Xue Hongjun: I can make it without many problems.
Reporter: After you make such kind of preparation, do you feel promising to the life after you return to the society?
Xue Hongjun: Yes, I feel promising and I wish to pay back the society.
Hostess: The self-burning incident four years ago startled Chinese people as well as the whole world, and it also disclosed the Cult essence of Falun Gong. What is most harrowing is the death of 36 years' old Liu Chunling and her 12 years' old Liu Sixing. However, the good thing is that the participators and related persons of the self-burning incident have regained new lives. We can see the recovery of humanism in them. We hope that the death and the thinking of penitents can warn people to love their lives and stay away from Cult.
