Stamp out eyesores

2012-06-27 Author:By Kristiaan Helsen

There are two eyesores on both sides of the harbor that have been around for far too long.

The first is the Falun Gong stand outside the Star Ferry terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. The shocking pictures of gore do not belong in a major tourist area frequented by many children. Most of these pictures - if not all of them - are the product of clever photoshopping.

The Falun Gong sect was rightfully banned by the Chinese government. There are other far less outrageous propaganda tools that this sect can employ to get its message across.

The other eyesore is the Occupy Hong Kong tent camp underneath the HSBC headquarters in Central.

While similar tent camps have long been sent packing in other cities around the world, this one - for some inscrutable reason - seems to have staying power.

Apart from its unaesthetic aspects, the camp raises concerns about hygiene and must surely be a source for rat infestations. It is time to stamp out both eyesores.
