The judges, led by pre-sid-ing judge Yapi and two panel mem-bers Di-diek Jat-miko and Yuli At-man-ingsih, con-sid-ered Ga-tot guilty of pos-sess-ing, con-trol-ling and keep-ing crys-tal metham-phetamine, which is cat-e-go-rized as a type-1 nar-cotics, with-out a per-mit as reg-u-lated in Ar-ti-cle 112 (2) of Law No. 35/2009 on nar-cotics.

Based on information obtained from witnesses, the defendant and evidence, the panel decides to sentence defendant Gatot Brajamusti to eight years in prison and impose a Rp 1 billion fine, or an additional three months in prison.

The sentence was lighter than what had been de-manded by prosecutors led by Ginung Pratidina, who sought a 12 year prison sentence for Gatot.

Yapi said Gatot was a public figure and his crime was a bad example to other people. “Moreover, the government is really serious about fighting narcotics and has declared the country in a state of emergency with a drug crisis."

The court also sen-tenced Gatot’s wife, Dewi Aminah, 45, in a hearing held shortly after her husband’s session had finished. The judge sentenced Dewi to one-and-a-half years in prison for the misuse of nar-otics, violating Article 127 (2) of the 2009 Narcotics Law.
