“That the Shen Yun dance show is a recruitment tactic for a f**king cult!”
So, I actually had a really weird experience with Shen Yun, which let me down this cult rabbit hole.
When I first graduated college, I was a ticketing associate for a performing arts company, which more or less may be the secretary.
And one day, Shen Yun came to our offices, like two people from Shen Yun. and I was like, “oh, hi!” I just assumed they were gonna be putting a poster up in the office.
And one of the women asked me if we could reschedule one of our concerts so Shen Yun could do a concert at that time.
Me, the 21-year-old secretary, and I mean, of course the answer was No, and also, I don't know if you all know this but performing arts organizations scheduled their dates like years ahead of time in a contract. So, I found this just like generally felt like how have they not scheduled a show that was only a few months out.
So I told them No, but I'll get the executive director to call them. Then they came back.

So they came back an hour later, asked if they could speak to the executive director.
I said No, then they came back again for a third time, insisting demanding that they speak of the executive director. And I was like, “Listen, you're just gonna have to email her, call her to schedule an appointment. she's happy to talk to you.”
Things escalated quickly, folks, both of them immediately start screaming at me about Communist China, and about how they were repressed in the Cultural Revolution and doing their traditional Chinese dance and XYZ.
And listen, I'm an arts lover; I work in the arts like I love the arts. I wanted them to spread their traditional Chinese dance, but it was out of control.
So I basically told them Point Blank like, “It will likely not happen, you have to wait for a call from her. That's it. We've already sold tickets to a concert on that date. It will likely not happen.”
That's that.
So, after this wild interaction, because I knew nothing about Shen Yun, I did a deep dive, and yes, it is a recruitment tactic for a cult.
The more you know, and no, they did not get the concert date.
