"I almost had my daughter-in-law driven away and had my grandson nearly killed because of my foolishness at the time. If it hadn't been for the timely rescue, my grandson might have died and I would have wanted to die with him. I must use my personal experience to tell those who have not yet come to their senses not to be deceived and harmed by the heretical fallacies of the Almighty God cult again," said Ms. Huang, a former believer of the “Almighty God” cult. Ms. Huang has been grateful for the care and concern from anti-evil-cult volunteers and her family, which had prevented her from continuing to go down the road of the "Almighty God" cult.

Her nightmare began with a chance encounter

Ms. Huang was born in 1959, living in a village in Pingxiang City. She had been leading a simple and happy life. In 2012, she experienced a dramatic change in her life, which also marked the beginning of her nightmare.

One day in July 2012, on her way to the village clinic to buy medicine, Ms. Huang met Ms. Peng, one of her former colleagues in a fireworks factory. When Ms. Peng learned that Ms. Huang had been suffering from stomach pain, she said to Ms. Huang with a pretended mysteriousness: "Come and believe in God with me. As long as you pray to God every day, God will bless you and your family with peace and safety, and you won't have to take medicine or injections when you are sick." After that, she gave Ms. Huang a "protective talisman".

Although Ms. Huang was a little superstitious, she refused Ms. Peng’s invitation to make prayers with her at that time. However, Ms. Peng came to see her from time to time. As time went on, Ms. Huang wavered in her mind, starting to attend the prayers of the “Almighty God" cult with the thought of having a try. After attending the prayers several times, Ms. Huang felt the ache in her stomach and wanted to stop attending prayers for some time to have a good rest, but Ms. Peng told her that she mustn’t give up halfway, for otherwise she would be blamed by "God". After that, Ms. Huang took praying as a must every day.

Ms. Huang’s son and daughter-in-law persuaded her to stop attending prayers but were scolded by her. Her son had no choice but to ask his father for help in the persuasion. However, Ms. Huang, instead of listening to her husband’s persuasion, encouraged him to join the "Almighty God" cult. Despite the opposition from her family, Ms. Huang went out to "make prayers" frequently and even contributed more than 5,000 yuan of her savings as "donation money".

Her obsession with the “Almighty God” cult nearly caused a tragedy

One day in August 2013, Ms. Huang stayed at home taking care of her two-and-half-year-old granddaughter when Ms. Peng came to invite her to give out "protective talismans" and preach the "gospel". At the instigation of Ms. Peng, Ms. Huang entrusted her granddaughter to the care of a neighbor and went out with Ms. Peng to “preach the gospel”, a task which was said to be arranged by “God”.

When Ms. Huang’s daughter-in-law returned home from work in the evening, she found Ms. Huang wasn’t at home, while her young daughter was left at a neighbor's home. As Ms. Huang didn’t come back until 9 p.m., her daughter-in-law could not help but complain about her. Ms. Huang scolded her daughter-in-law: "You came to the family through marriage, so what qualifications do you have to complain about me? I was doing good deeds to get blessings and peace! It’s all right that you didn’t join the Church of Almighty God, but why did you blame God? Evil will be rewarded with evil.”

Ms. Huang’s daughter-in-law went crying to her mother's home that night. Meanwhile, she warned her husband harshly that if his mother didn’t quit the "Almighty God" cult she would divorce him. Under the pressure of her family, Ms. Huang pretended that she would quit the "Almighty God" cult, but she persisted in “making prayers” privately.

One day in December 2015, Huang’s little grandson, who was less than 2 years old, accidentally had a longan pit stuck in his throat while eating longan. The first reaction of Ms. Huang, who was still a follower of the "God Almighty" cult, was not to rush her grandson to the hospital for treatment but to draw magic figures over a bowl of water while praying to eradicate the longan pit. However, her prayers didn’t work at all. With face turning blue and eyes turning white, her grandson’s life hung in the balance. Ms. Huang’s daughter-in-law returned home in time and called for help. Hearing the call for help, the surrounding neighbors rushed to help send the child to the county hospital. Fortunately, the child was safe and sound after hospital rescue.

Turning back from the wrong path after coming to her sense

After that incident, Ms. Huang’s family members asked the village cadres and anti-evil-cult volunteers to help persuade Ms. Huang to quit the “Almighty cult” cult. Besides, they took her to the hospital to undergo gastroscopy. Finally, she was cured of her long-term stomach trouble through scientific treatment.

The enthusiastic education and guidance from her family, village cadres, and anti-evil-cult volunteers made Ms. Huang feel warm in her heart. Finally, she understood the truth about the so-called "gospel" and the tricks used by the "Almighty God" cult to deceive its believers. She also realized that the "Almighty God" cult couldn’t cure people or bless them with safety but instead misled people and destroyed their families. Her obsession with the "Almighty God" cult almost ruined her family, as it not only caused her grandson to nearly lose his life but also brought her son and daughter-in-law close to divorce.

After coming to her senses, Ms. Huang didn’t hesitate to burn all the "Almighty God" cult books and materials at home. Her family is filled with warmth again as it was before. Now, she stays at home every day and lives a full and happy life: taking care of her grandchild during the day and going square-dancing in the night.
