"I felt heartbroken seeing my daughter like this. She wouldn’t have become like this if her mother had been with her, taking care of her child or saying some relieving words to her." Guo Jianwen, a man over 50 years old, burst into tears when he found his daughter wandering in her speech and looking mentally depressed.

Guo Jianwen, from Xinghe County, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia, had a happy family with a virtuous wife and a well-behaved daughter. A few years ago, he had a granddaughter born to him. His family lived a simple and happy life. However, all this had changed since his wife believed in the "Almighty God" cult.

Gao Ailing

Gao Ailing strayed into an evil cult when visiting her mother

One day in 2006, Gao Ailing was called by her husband, Guo Jianwen, to go to her mother's home to take care of her mother, who was not feeling well. Unexpectedly, this visit sowed the seeds of tragedy for Gao’s peaceful and happy family.

When Gao Ailing took care of her sick mother at her mother's home, several relatives and friends came one day. They brought some fruits in the name of visiting Gao’s mother. Apart from fruits, they brought with them a few books and some audio materials. They asked Gao's mother to read the books and listen to the audio materials as often as possible in her free time, saying that these were the "Gospel" brought by the “Female Christ”, which could help her get rid of her illness. They added that if Gao believed in the "Almighty God" cult, she would receive God’s blessings and soon recover her health.

When Gao’s sick mother heard what they said, her spirit was lifted and she was determined to give it a try. Since Gao’s mother was illiterate, Gao had to read those books to her. In this way, Gao Ailing, who had been a bit superstitious, also fell into the trap of the "Almighty God" cult little by little through this kind of passive learning.

Gao Ailing fell deeper and deeper into the quagmire of the “Almighty God” cult

In 2014, the only daughter of Guo Jianwen and Gao Ailing got married, and in the following year, gave birth to a girl child. Before the daughter tasted the joy of being a mother for the first time, her child was found to be suffering from congenital heart disease. Then her entire family began to seek medical treatment for the child everywhere.

Gao Ailing had been immersed in the world of the "Almighty God" for years. After learning about her granddaughter's illness, she didn’t help her daughter get her granddaughter operated on as early as possible. Instead, she thought it was a punishment from God, caused by her family members obstructing her from believing in “God” all these years. From then on, Gao Ailing no longer rested content with studying the "Almighty God" cult materials with her fellow sisters. She began to "preach the gospel" everywhere and stayed outside for three or five days every time she left home.

Taking care of a newborn baby was already stressful enough, not to mention taking care of a baby with congenital heart disease. Instead of offering help and comfort to her daughter, Gao Ailing considered her daughter giving birth to a child with congenital heart disease a "curse" and "bad luck". Consequently, there were growing differences between Gao ailing and her daughter. Gao’s husband, Guo Jianwen, repeatedly persuaded and admonished her to quit the “Almighty God” cult but in vain, which led to constant quarrels in the family. As time went by, Gao Ailing grew increasingly estranged from her family members, and she regarded her family members as Satan and demons.

On February 12, 2018, Gao Ailing left home again. Her husband, Guo Jianwen, initially thought she would return home as usual in three or five days, so he didn’t take it seriously and concentrated on preparing for the Spring Festival.

Gao Ailing’s daughter suffered from depression under various pressures

The 2018 Spring Festival came as expected. Gao Ailing’s daughter went early to her parents’ home with her husband and child. They looked forward to a happy family reunion. However, Gao Ailing was still nowhere to be seen when the 15th day of the first lunar month was over.

Gao Ailing’s family could not reach her by phone and had never heard from her. It seemed that she had disappeared from the world. Meanwhile, Gao Ailing's daughter had been in a state of self-blame. She regretted that she had neither realized the harm of the "Almighty God" cult nor had any sincere communication with her mother or asked professionals to transform her mother’s mind during the past 10-odd years.

Missing her mother, feeling guilty, and blaming herself, coupled with the pressure of caring for a sick child, finally overwhelmed Gao Ailing’s daughter. Being diagnosed with depression, Gao Ailing’s daughter often tried to go out to look for her mother when she woke up in the middle of the night. On several occasions, she nearly jumped off the building. She sometimes cried and sometimes laughed, and she kept calling her relatives and friends to inquire about her mother's whereabouts.

After consultation with his son-in-law, Guo Jianwen decided to send his daughter to the Sha Ling Psychiatric Hospital for better treatment. It could allow Guo Jianwen to have more time energy to take care of his granddaughter with heart disease and make more time to look for his missing wife.

Hopefully, Gao Ailing will read this article and come home soon.
