In Liuzhou, Guangxi Province, Ah Hong (pseudonym), 41, is cooking dinner with her husband, waiting for their junior high school daughter to come back home after school. All three of them arranged to watch a latest movie together after the dinner. Such a simple but beautiful life is far beyond their wildest imagination in the past.

“The evil cult kept me being wrongheaded for a long time, for which I hated its guts”, said Ah Hong angrily, who finally comes to her senses now but once devoted almost everything she got to the evil Almighty God cult. Many previously happy families were torn apart by the Almighty God cult.

Ah Hong has also been to the same dangerous edge of the abyss of the endless darkness……

Being credulous to the absurd idea that prayers can cure diseases incurs the coming of the Almighty God cult

When Ah Hong was still a junior high school student, her mother once was sick and then recovered from it, but her mother believed that her recovery should be credited to the “Head God” cult which she had faith in. (In 1998, the “Head God” was explicitly defined as an evil cult by the state.) In order to put the whole family under the shield of “Head God”, her mother asked her to become a believer of the “Head God” cult, which is how Ah Hong started to go astray in her life after she couldn’t withstand the pressure from her mother and agreed to convert to it.

It was in 2003 when she got married that Ah Hong made contact with the Almighty God cult for the first time. At that time, she just graduated from a technical secondary school and suffered from hyperthyroidism. One day, her mother brought back home a so-called “big brother” and claimed that he could cure her disease. Her mother also told her that the only True God came and that the “Head God” they used to believe in was a fraud.

Saying that he was guided by God, the so-called “big brother” gave her a cupping session, and then explained the doctrine of Almighty God to her, claiming people who believe in Almighty God can survive disasters and other who don’t only inflict bad fortune upon them. Ah Hong was skeptical about what he said and started comparing the teachings of Almighty God and that of Head God, but under his constant lobbying and her self-suggestions, Ah Hong gradually believed that the True God indeed came this time.

She was frantically brainwashed and fell into claws of the Almighty God cult

Although Ah Hong believed in the Almighty God cult at that time, she only occasionally recited scriptures, said prayers and read cult books at home. In her daily life, she was still a frugal and devoted housewife, taking good care of both the old and young in the family as well as their small family business. As a result, the whole family led a happy and peaceful life even though they were not rich.

But ever since she met this “big brother”, her quiet life was interrupted as if a tranquil surface of water became rippled and corrugated due to a pebble dropped into it.

When the “big brother” came for Ah Hong from time to time, he always took her to obscure corners to do the missionary work. Ah Hong was quite confused about it because, in her opinion, there should be nothing to hide for religious belief in God, so she wondered why he did it in a furtive way.

“Do you know why Jesus was crucified?  It is because Jesus did things in an open and aboveboard way so that he fell a prey to a plot of villains and was crucified. That’s why we should do things in a discreet way without many other people knowing, otherwise we would inflict calamities upon ourselves and stand no chance of being saved.” The big brother resolved her doubt with such an absurd answer.

“Disasters are coming.” “Jesus is reincarnated as a female this time to save people.”……Brainwashed constantly by the “big brother”, Ah Hong began to fully trust him and went participate Almighty God cult parties with him.

At the beginning, Ah Hong didn’t care much about the weekly party. She usually arrived at 10 when she was supposed to be there at 9. When it rained, she would pass up the part that day, which is blamed by other attended believers, “How could you be so lazy like this?! You should be here on time even when it rains knives, let alone just raindrops.”

“These believers all seem kind of crazy. And in the book of theirs, God always swears.” The more Ah Hong thought about it, the more she felt that things weren’t quite right about this God. So she began to get cold feet about it. When these believers perceived that she wanted to back out on them, they started to intimidate her by saying, “If you stop believing in God now, you will not be saved in the event of catastrophes.” Fortunately, Ah Hong was still in her senses then and wasn’t dragged in too deep to get out. So she stopped taking part in such parties with excuses of being busy with household chores.

Being obsessed with the Almighty God cult made her family and her grow apart

However, the Almighty God cult wasn’t going to easily let her off the hook. When Ah Hong had her baby in 2008, those Almighty God cult believers who lost contact with her for a while reached her again. This time, they tried to rope her in by taking advantage of her love for her newborn baby.

“It is God that asked us to get you. If you don’t come, you’re defying God.”

“It is God that bestowed this child upon you. Therefore, if you use this child as an excuse to defy God, your child will suffer from afflictions and disasters.”

“There was a sister who defied God for the sake of her child. Then her child was hit and killed by a truck, which is exactly the punishment for her from God.”

Those threating words left a psychological shadow in her hearts. The more she thought about it, the more frightening she was, making her gradually lose her mind. At last, she fell prey to the Almighty God cult and turned into a wholehearted cult believer. This time, she drifted further and further away in the wrong path……

After rejoining the Almighty God cult, Ah Hong was thoroughly brainwashed and became a “tool” for the cult to propaganda heretical ideas. Every day, she went to many places to “preach” to those newly converted.

Ah Hong was so busy with her “missionary work” that she had to send her 1 year and 9 months old child to a kindergarten. Every day, she set out early in the morning and got back late in the evening without discussing her work with anyone else, hardly having any time for her family. Her husband thought Ah Hong was just working too hard at work, and had no idea at all that what Ah Hong’s actual daily work involved participating illegal gatherings, saying prayers, and preaching for the cult.

Without a job, Ah Hong had no income. In the meanwhile, although Ah Hong was too frugal to buy herself delicious food or beautiful clothing, she had to pay tributes to the Almighty God cult organizations at intervals, so she had no choice but to divert some of the household living expenses she asked from her husband for it.

Feeling more and more pinched for money, her husband started to have doubts about her so-called work, “You always say you are working, but how come we haven’t seen even a penny you brought back home yet? You’re sticking with that mumbo-jumbo book all day long, spending no time on taking care of our girl now. No matter what you are doing, it just doesn’t feel right. I’ll report you to police so that you and whoever you’re working with will be arrested!”, her husband said angrily.

“How dare you say you call the police?!”  Ah Hong shouted hysterically, “you will be punished by God!”

In order to dispel her husband’s doubts, and put him under the protection of God, Ah Hong tried to persuade her husband to join the Almighty God cult with her by saying “We are marriage partners. I won’t leave you behind when disasters come, while you can do whatever you see fit for you survival. Now I’m saving you no matter whether you believe me or not.” Fortunately, her husband stood his ground firmly.

Day by day, Ah Hong’s husband was becoming increasingly impatient at her strange behaviors and nonsense talking to the extent that he even started to consider divorce as an option. But he banished his thought on divorce at last because he wanted their young daughter to have a wholesome family.

One day in 2011, when Ah Hong was preaching to followers in a gathering, her mother was critically ill. Her relatives called her and urged her to hurry back home. But the Almighty God cult organization onsite prevented her from leaving, saying “If your love for God is real, you should pray to God and leave your mother to God, and God will take good care of your mother.” With no other option, Ah Hong had to suppress her worries about her mother and secretly wiped her tears while praying.

After a period of time, her mother was cured by doctors and recovered in the hospital, but Ah Hong thought the recovery of her mother should be credited to her prayers to Almighty God so that Almighty God heard her petition and saved her mother, which made her more pious than ever.

Family tie is the attachment one could never give up in the heart. But in the doctrine of the Almighty God cult, each relative is a demon or Satan, family tie is the biggest obstacle to the success, and suffering is the blessing of God. It also stipulates that believers must hate their families and any other people who don’t believe in Almighty God. The reason why the Almighty God cult instigates believers to do so is because the cult wants to create family conflicts, tear families apart, and sever family ties so that cult believers could easily become pawns manipulated by the Almighty God cult after they break up with their families and no long have any tie to bind them with families or the society.

She got rid of clutches of the Almighty God cult and went help and educate cult victims

The scales of justice may occasionally skew but they will eventually reach its neutral position. In 2013, Ah Hong was captured by the local public security department, with the education of which, she finally came back to her senses and realized that all things the Almighty God cult instilled into her mind were nothing but lies, and that there is neither such Almighty God to save all nor devastating catastrophes.

Ah Hong shed her tears at the thought of her devoting nearly all her energy, financial resources and emotions to the evil cult over the past years, during which time she neglected her family, ignored her daughter and lied to her husband. After being helped and educated, Ah Hong is fully aware of her mistakes made in the past and trying her best to learn new knowledge, skills and methods. Now, Ah Hong becomes an anti-cult volunteer, making great efforts to save victims who are like herself in the past by using her own experience as a sobering lesson.

All her family members opened their hearts to warmly welcome returned Ah Hong, of whom the happiest one is undoubtedly her daughter, because she could finally expect her mother to show up at parent-teacher meetings in years to come.
