If it had not been for the patient and meticulous guidance of anti-cult volunteers, Mr. He Liangfu might not have been able to see through the smoke and deceptive trick of the Almighty God cult, which he mistook for divine light. Not only did he struggle in this mistake for nearly 12 years but also brought harm to his family.
He Liangu, a true peasant, lives in Xiejiaxi village, Lushan Street, Fuyang District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and works in a wood products factory of the local village. He has a filial son with his virtuous wife. All three of them lived a happy life before getting in touch with the Almighty God cult.
Misfortune befell him and his family in 2002 when he started to pay tributes to the Almighty God cult. For five months in a row, He Liangfu didn’t bring back home even a penny of his salary. Later, his wife learned that he joined a Church called Almighty God. But she didn’t know it was actually a cult until a later time.
Mr. He Liangfu was originally a Christian, which was the main reason why he was targeted by the Almighty God cult. In order to lure in new victims, the Almighty God cult would stoop to every dirty, low-down trick to do it, among which “family card” and “seduction card” were its favorites. The Almighty God cult prefers to prey on Christians because it disguised itself as “New Christianity”, so many innocent and unsophisticated Christians would fall for its lies.
What intrigued He Liangfu and made him have delusions was the so-called “The Only True God” advocated by the Almighty God cult, which cast aspersions on Christianity teachings and lied to Christians by claiming that the Almighty God was the upgraded version of Christianity.
Gradually, He Liangfu’s mind transformed into a state of “loving Almighty God” and “respecting Almighty God”. With the deepening of his obsession, and driven by the Almighty God cult, he started to participate “spreading the gospel” activities to draw more people to live in the “divine light”.
After all, tricking people into believing a cult is a despicable act, so He Liangfu’s “gospel spreading” activities were resisted by others. He was reported by masses when he once went out to spread the fallacies of the Almighty God cult, and then he was arrested and detained by the local public security department. With the education of the public security department, He Liangfu said he would never believe in Almighty God again and would no longer participate in any activity of the Almighty God cult.
But what He Liangfu said was just words instead of a sincere promise. Deep down in his mind, he was still controlled by the cult fallacies as if they were some kind of evil magic shackles that tied him up so that he wasn’t able to get out of the divine light of the Almighty God cult. After he got back home, he still kept doing self-brainwashing by reciting cult heresies furtively. He even secretly attended some illegal cult parties when summoned by Almighty God cult organizations. He became more and more reclusive and almost cut his relatives out of his life, totally ignoring all of their kind advices.
Later, He Liangfu even turned a deaf ear to his family, refusing to farm the land in his fields or go out to work, which widened the rift between him and his family. But in his mind, he believed that his family and relatives were possessed by demons trying to mess with him. Thus, misfortune befell this once happy family. His wife often quarreled with him because she was strongly opposed to his belief in Almighty God. Then, this previously harmonious family was in the shadow cast by the Almighty God cult year in year out. His wife was so disappointed in him that she ended up suffering from depression.
The green years of his son were totally ruined by the Almighty God cult too, which was supposed to be in blossom but faded away from him along with the happiness that his son deserved to have. The biggest pity in his son’s heart was that he had to lead a single and lonely life in those years. According to one of his son’s friends, he was a sunny and happy man, but he gradually turned into a silent and dull person because he grew a strong sense of inferiority after he learned that his father was deeply obsessed with the Almighty God cult. He became reluctant to go out and mingle with other people. So he could hardly have any date with girls. Even if by any chance he got a date, it never worked out because his date would immediately left when learning his father was an Almighty God believer.
As every single one in the family was in bad shape, it was no wonder that their family financial circumstances were from bad to worse day by day. One of He Liangfu’s neighbor says, “He doesn’t do any work. Sometimes, no one knows where he goes. Nearly all the people in the village live in new buildings and new houses, while his family still lives in that same old house. In June, there isn’t even an air-conditioner in his house. And his wife is sick all the year round. What a mess for his family.”
In 2014, He Liangfu’s family was on the verge of collapse. By visiting his family, anti-cult volunteers learned all his absurd behaviors and the awful life he led for his family and himself in those years after he became addicted with the Almighty God cult. So these anti-cult volunteers made up their minds to save him from claws of the Almighty God cult.
In order to open up his mind, the volunteers visited him many times to persuade him patiently, carefully and thoroughly. However, due to his long-term obedience to Almighty God, he was quite indifferent and negative towards their help, falsely claiming repeatedly that he had nothing to do with the Almighty God cult any more after he made the promise to cut the Almighty God cult out of his life. Facing his stubbornness and denials, the volunteers didn’t give up on him, instead they sought helps in many ways to find the key to go into his heart. Finally, their hard work paid off, they found a psychological counseling organization, to which they sent He Liangfu and his family for professional therapy.
After therapy, shackles of the Almighty God fallacies that bound his mind were crumbling away, and the “divine light” shrouding his heart was also scattered. He felt more comfortable than ever when he came back to his senses. When talking about his disillusion, he said what shocked him most, among many tragedies and criminal cases by the Almighty God cult, was the direful murder case in 28th May, 2014 where a young woman, 36 years old, was regarded as a demon and beaten to death in public by Almighty God cult believers simply because she was unwilling to give her mobile phone number to these strangers.
Shockingly, in another appalling murder case where a female believer of Almighty God killed her own daughter who was only three months old……
A pile of tragedies and crimes caused by the Almighty God cult has made He Liangfu fully aware of its nature of deceiving people, harming people and putting the whole society in jeopardies. Therefore, he determined to make a clean break with the Almighty God cult. He dug out all of the Almighty God video discs, books and propaganda materials hidden in his house, and hand them in to the relevant department of the sub-district office.
With his return to the previous normal nine-to-five job again, his family rift is healing as well. Nowadays, he often warns people to be on alert for lies of cults and advises others to cherish the present happiness in life.
