The Missing of an Elite Lawyer

The bar exam is held annually.  It is the dream of law students to pass the exam and become a practicing lawyer in exchange for countless days of hard study and sleepless nights.  However, for Xiao Jing, all her hard work and good plans came to naught when she joined the cult Almighty God.

Trapped, innocent mother turns into freak

Xiao Jing's mother, Feng Yun, had been in poor health since she retired from Dagang Oil Field in Tianjin in 2010.  After hearing the news, an acquaintance whom Feng Yun had not seen for a long time often inquired after her well-being, and the two gradually became "bosom friends".  This person also quickly found out Feng Yun's physical condition, family background, personality and other information.

Before long, the "bosom friend" introduced "evangelical" personnel to Feng Yun in the name of curing her illness, and then asked her to join the Almighty God church. They told Feng Yun that Almighty God was "the second incarnation of Christ, the fate of mankind is in His hands, and He can heal believers of all diseases." Step by step, Feng Yun was cheated into joining the cult.

Because Feng Yun had been insisting on taking medicine, plus putting down psychological burdens, her physical conditions improved a lot. Brainwashed by cult members, she felt that it was the effect of believing in Almighty God.  And since then, she frequently went to attend cult gatherings, learning the Almighty God doctrine with "brothers and sisters". Later on, she started leaving home to spread " evangelism" and “does her part” with Almighty God followers , totally regardless of the house work, family affection and her daughter’s future.  In eyes of friends and relatives, Feng Yun had turned into another person, indifferent, stubborn and talky ——extremely talky.

Preaching “End of the World”, and luring daughter into joining cult group

The cult of Almighty God was accustomed to the way of "inbreeding" to recruit members, playing family card to spread "evangelism".  After being brainwashed, Feng Yun began to draw her daughter into joining the cult.  She told her daughter, "One person believes in God, and the whole family will be blessed and healed."

At that time, Xiao Jing had graduated from a Normal University with a master's degree in law, and successfully joined a well-known law firm in Tianjin. Helped by the warm-hearted, she married Chen Li and set up a family. Originally, Xiao Jing had no intention of joining the Almighty God, but just then rumor had it that according to Mayan prophecy, 2012 was the “end of the world”, and the Almighty God wildly promoted such theory in the society. Influenced by the rumor and surrendered to Feng Yun’s pleadings, Xiao Jing fell into a state of belief and doubt about Almighty God and started to get contact with cult followers. Later on, she was gradually brainwashed to believe that “God” would punish those disbelievers, so she decided to join the group for “protections”.

Unfortunately, that was the beginning of a nightmare for herself and her family.

Father hanged himself out of desperation

Ever since joining the cult, Feng Yun had devoted herself to serving and running errands for Almighty God. She stayed outside for a few days at first, then disappeared from home for more than 10 to 15 days, for which her husband quarreled many times with her but to no avail. The Almighty God organization preached that those partners who didn’t support their faith in Almighty God were their “Satan” or enemies. The cult organization also advocated believers to contribute anything they had and demanded believers to leave their family and relatives. Consequently, Feng Yun little by little became an empty shell without feelings and family affection, viewing her husband as a hideous monster simply because he kept trying to dissuade her from her faith. So Wang Jue, the husband, felt hopeless and depressed for his wife who used to be so thoughtful.

On December 12, 2012, instigated by Almighty God organization, Feng Yun, along with other believers, printed a large number of illegal propaganda materials and seized other people’s property in the name of “spreading gospel to save people”, for which she was arrested by public security unit and taken into police custody. Her daughter Xiao Jing was so badly influenced that she also fell deeply into the clutches of the cult. Wang Jue felt even more miserable when seeing his daughter threw away her promising future.

As the Spring Festival drew near, a festive atmosphere was everywhere for anyone except Wang Jue who was in huge depths of despair after feeling helpless to save his daughter. In addition, living in the icy-cold home without family affection, Wang felt his daily existence was a torture for him. In the end, on February 5, 2013, which was the 25th of the 12th lunar month, Wang Jue who just retired after a life-long hard work, hanged himself in the Hedong Park. From then on, Feng Yun ran away from home without a trace.

Abandoning family and career, elite lawyer remains disappeared

Her father’s death and her mother’s running away from home failed to bring Xiao Jing back to sense. With the increase of brainwashing and mind control, Xiao Jing lost her ability to think straight, foolishly believing that only Almighty God could save her and the world.

As a result, she quitted her job from the law firm and fully devoted herself to cult activities such as “doing her part” or “spreading gospel”. Although her husband Chen Li was strongly opposed to it, Xiao Jing had firmly made up her mind to do so even at the expense of breaking up with her husband, trying to get rid of “demon family members” who didn’t believe in Almighty God. Xiao Jing was also demanded by the cult to write down various “guarantees” such as “donation guarantee”, “family relationship termination letter”, etc. to ensure that she would be fully devoted to contribute everything she had to cult, otherwise she would die an unnatural death as a punishment from “God”.

In 2012, the Almighty God organization used the “doomsday” rumor to incite illegal “large-scaled gatherings” in many places over the country, preaching that “Almighty God has descended to the world to save people”, and that “those who don’t believe in or deny the existence of Almighty God would die from lightning struck.” Believers were so mind-controlled that they abandoned their spouses and children, and cut their relatives out of their lives to make Almighty God the only meaningful existence in their life that was worth worshiping, loving and serving wholeheartedly. Xiao Jing was one of these manipulated puppets.

On June 19, 2013, Xiao Jing left her husband and ran away from home. On April 20, 2014, she flied to South Korea from Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. Then, no one heard from her ever since.

The beloved daughter, the happy wife, the promising elite lawyer career, all of these has nothing to do with Xiao Jing anymore. Bewitched by the Almighty God cult, all she has got now are a mother running away from home, a father who hanged himself in despair, a fake “refugee” identity after she abandoned her husband and went abroad. She ended up losing her family ties with family members and relatives, manipulated and placed under house arrest by the cult organization. What a pity!
