My name is Ah Xue and my online nickname is “Sunflower of Justice”. What I want share with friends is the true story about my family’s addiction to “Almighty God Church”, hoping that more people could see the real danger of the cult by learning from my family’s painful experience and, professional anti-cult experts could come to the aid of my family so that my beloved ones could have a happy and peaceful life again.
My mother used to tell me “schooling was useless” when I was a kid
My grandma believed in Christianity, and I knew it ever since I was a child. In my memory, there were Christian posters hanged on the wall at home. I had no idea when exactly my mother, as a former Christian believer, was drawn into the “Almighty God” cult. I just vaguely remembered that about 20 years ago when I was in the third grade at primary school, my mother always emphasized to my younger brother, little sister and me that reading was useless because neither knowledge nor science was absolute truth, and that we could only find the truth and be blessed by divines after we came closer to the real “God”. As a kid, I was so confused about what my mother said to me and wondered why my mother kept saying to us “schooling is useless” and held us back academically while other mothers all looked forward to their children’s better performance at school and encouraged them to study hard. At that young age, I wasn’t capable of thinking in depth and I just couldn’t decide whose words I should follow, either the one from my teacher who urged me to study hard or that from my mother who asked me to do nothing but go close to “God”. I also found that my mother always read some books or brochures, which made me quite curious: how come my undereducated mother loved reading while declaring that studying was useless? Later on, I learned that what my mother read were all “Almighty God” teachings.
Whenever I got a good exam result, my mother would attribute it to divines’ bless and then asked me to be grateful to “God”. In short, since childhood, I felt my mother attributed all good things that happened to me to the so-called “God” she believed in and completely ignored the factor of my personal efforts, which was a sign that my mother had deviated from the normal way of thinking. Under the influence of my mother, I muddled along and gradually grew up. After I failed my college entrance examination, I managed to pass the adult college entrance examination and, fortunately, completed my undergraduate degree. If I had been completely obedient to my mother, my life would have been totally ruined.
Only now do I understand that, according to Almighty God’s doctrine, “Science and knowledge are weapons used by demons to defeat humans because the more knowledge people have, the more reaction they will have against God”. The fact that my mother was brainwashed by such fallacies explained why she educated us in such a wrong way when we were kids.
My mother became a woman with a heart of stone and stopped taking care of our family.
I was raised in the countryside. My father worked hard in cities to make money in order to improve the financial situation of our family. At that time, all three of us siblings were so young that my mother should stay at home to look after us. However, she was often absent from home because she frequently went out furtively and stayed out for more than half a day, leaving us at home without knowing what she was up to. She wouldn’t show up even at lunch time, so we had to eat at our grandma’s. My mother had a very poor relationship with neighbors and relatives, and others thought that Mom was kind of aloof. She also didn’t have any enthusiasm for visiting relatives. She was indifferent to everything except for “Almighty God”. But my father was unaware these changes taking place on her as he was away from home all the time.
In 2009, my sister-in-law was pregnant and had symptom of premature birth. So she went back to hometown, hoping that my mother could lend her a hand. But my mother refused to help her for the reason that she didn’t want anything else to stop her from attending church parties, or she might be distracted from wholeheartedly worshiping “Almighty God”. My sister-in-law once stopped my mother from leaving for an “Almighty God” party, which made my mother so angry that she stormed out of the door. Later, my sister-in-law gave birth to a son, imploring my mother for looking after her. But my mother flatly refuse her, and ruthless told her, “The child only borrowed your body to be born, but he wouldn’t necessarily be your child because there would be an immeasurable difference between those who believe in ‘God’ and ones who don’t.” Even after I gave birth to my daughter and asked my mother to help look after my baby as I was so busy with my work, my mother firmly rejected my plea with all sorts of excuses. In fact, all she cared about was the fact that taking care of my baby might take up her time for serving the “God”.
In short, I felt that my mother became ruthless and unreasonable after believing in “Almighty God”. It seemed that she regarded the family as something dispensable, and she was totally indifferent to everyone and everything in the family.
My mother broke her arm on her way to a cult party
I remembered that one day when my mother went to a cult party by bike, she accidentally fell off when turning around on the road and broke her arm. But she still attended the party before struggling to go back home with a broken arm. Seeing that her swollen arm became as bulging as a thigh and she was unable to move the injured arm at all, we were all so terrified and worried that we tried every possible way to persuade her into seeing a doctor. But she stubbornly believed that “The fate of human is determined by ‘Almighty God’. So, it is up to ‘Almighty God’ rather than a doctor to ensure whether I could get cured or not, and I don’t necessarily have to go to the hospital for treatment as long as I believe in ‘Almighty God’ piously. ‘Almighty God’ could ensure my well-being.” In this way, my mother tried all means and firmly refused to see a doctor. For more than three months, she just gritted her teeth to bear the excruciating pain and eventually survived it —It was a really lucky escape.
Whenever I think back on it, I feel scared. If what Mom injured weren’t just her arm, she would suffer the rest of her life for rejecting medical treatment. However, such terrible experience became Mom’s “evidence” of “being blessed by Almighty God” and, from then on, she was firmly convinced and wholeheartedly followed the “Almighty God” organization.
My mother ran away from home, then so did my younger sister
In May 2014, after learning the news about a direful murder case committed by members of the “Almighty God” cult in a McDonald’s restaurant in Zhaoyuan, Shandong Province, it suddenly occurred to me that my mother once tried to draw my younger sister and me into the “Almighty God” organization. But at that time, I was married, worked in another city and didn’t have much time to go back to my hometown, therefore, I didn’t have the luxury of time to be preached by my mother, while my younger sister was in another scenario as she had been living in our hometown all her life. To make sure that I wasn’t imaging anything, I immediately called my mother, but my mother cut me off as soon as she heard my enquiry, then I couldn’t get through to her number any more. Next, I called my younger sister right away for my concern. After learning the purpose behind my phone call, my younger sister started to sound a little flustered and hesitated, then she, too, hanged up on me before hearing me out. At that exact moment, I clearly realized that my younger sister got roped in because of my mother.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for my younger sister to run away from home for the first time to “do her part”, leaving her 7-year-old son behind. My father didn’t tell me what happened in case I might worry about my younger sister since I lived far away from home. Instead, he endured all the suffering all by himself for more than a month before he told me the truth. Then, we tried every possible way to search for her, but she just disappeared without any trace. About a year later, the police informed us that they found my younger sister. After taking her home, we all patiently asked her to cherish our family. However, in 2016, shortly after my younger sister gave birth to her second son, she ran away from home again to “serve the God” while her younger son was only 5-month-old. Less than a month after that, my fathered called me and told me in tears that my mother ran away from home as well. All of sudden, it was too much for me to absorb and I felt that everything just seemed to cave in on top of me. It turned out that those posts about the “Almighty God” cult which I read on the Internet were not exaggerated but totally true. Such tragedies really happened to my family! On every single festive occasion, my family was cloaked in sadness and yearning. And each day, we were looking forward to the day when my mother and my younger sister would come back home.
My mother was abandoned by “Almighty God” when getting old and sick
On the May Day in 2017, my mother suddenly came back by herself after leaving home for about a year. But she dared not go directly back to our hometown, she came to my home instead. I had no idea where she had been in the past year or how she lived. But I could clearly see that she lost at least 30 pounds in a year. It made me heart ache to see my mother’s haggard face and helpless eyes. I asked her sadly where she had been all this time. My mother said nothing to me, she cried like a child before me, tears running down her thin face.
Later, I learned that in March 2017, the “Almighty God” organization issued an in-house notice called “It’s forbidden by the God’s family to have elderly and sick believers do their part by leaving home”，therefore, My mother was driven out of the cult hideaway. The abominable cult bled its victims to the utmost in terms of youth, money, health, etc., and ruthlessly chucked them away as if they were fully sucked oranges when they became aged and sick and started to need money for medical treatments.
After coming back home in 2017, my mother stopped showing her belief in “Almighty God” for some days, but soon, she indulged herself in the illusionary but beautiful heavenly world preached by the cult again. Actually, deep down inside, she is still quite obsessed with “Almighty God”. My father told me that in the three years following her return in 2017, my mother often went out by e-bike all day. For that, we were really at our wits’ end. From my mother and my younger sister, I firsthand witnessed that the “Almighty God” cult was like a “Pick-Up Artist” for its preys. It could completely brainwash its victims and make them lose the ability to tell right from wrong. Thus, those believers became puppets at the mercy of the cult. I sincerely hope that the general public could stay alert to prevent cults from poisoning and devouring our souls.
The reason why I share with friends the true story of my family here, is that I hope anti-cult experts could reach out to us and provide with professional deprogramming assistance, and help my mother and my younger sister see as soon as possible the true color of “Almighty God” cult. I’m also earnestly looking forward to the moment when my dear little sister could answer my call and go back home as early as possible.
