In 2021, by sharing her own experience, 33-year-old Wang Xiaoqing (a pseudonym) saved a lot of cult addicts who had gone astray like her before.
“I was once so obsessed with the cult. Now, I hate it to its core because it’s a complete fraud. We were manipulated and used like pawns”, said the Wang Xiaoqing.
How did Wang Xiaoqing change from an “Almighty God” cult follower to a capable deprogramming expert?
She was drawn in by a neighbor and joined the cult by mistake
In October 2013, when Wang Xiaoqing took her 1-year-old son to her parents’ place, she noticed that the neighbor always came with strangers to visit her parents every week. At first, she didn’t pay much attention to it, thinking they might just have the usual chitchat. Later, out of curiosity, she started to listen to them by the side.
After a period of time, the neighbor realized that Wang Xiaoqing also showed up at “gatherings” from time to time. Therefore, the neighbor told her with a request that if she wanted to believe in “God”, she must be devout. And she was also told to attend the “gathering” every Tuesday and Friday. But she became disheartened when considering that she needed to take care of her child so that she couldn’t guarantee the full attendance required. Seeing that she was about to quit, several followers kept intimidating her. Fortunately, at that time, Wang Xiaoqing didn’t get too much involved with the cult. Therefore, she was still clear-headed about the situation and gradually stopped attending those gatherings.
But the devil talons of the cult didn’t lurk far from her in the darkness. One day in a few months, she was in a sulk after having a quarrel with her husband over household trivia. In her emotional distress, she started to pray to “God” and asked why she felt so much pain. After saying her “prayer”, she felt much more comfortable. For that, she believed that it was the credit of “God” and that it was “God” who freed her from her miseries. Afterwards, she started to participate the cult “gatherings” and went further and further away on the wrong path……
She abandoned her family to “do her duty” and was completed brainwashed
After joining the “Almighty God” for the second time, Wang Xiaoqing was completely brainwashed. Every day, she left home early and got back home late, occupying herself with “gatherings”, “praying” and “missionary works”.
In 2015, Wang Xiaoqing was promoted as a counselor by the “Almighty God” organization, and responsible for writing propaganda articles for the church, urging followers to handing in their experiences and distributing these propaganda materials in the area.
In 2016, she was coerced by the “Almighty God” church to “do her duty” by leaving her home. From Houma to Quwo, she was crammed with another 4 people in a miserable living condition. Because she was not allowed to take cellphone with her when leaving home, Wang Xiaoqing was unable to be contacted by her family at all in several weeks when she was away from home.
In March 2017, Wang Xiaoqing’s father suffered from an acute cerebral infarction. Her husband found the neighbor of her mother and asked the neighbor to contact her to get back home as soon as possible. Seeing her critically ill father after returning home, Wang Xiaoqing wanted to stay at home to take care of him. She also applied to the cult organization for finding a job near home so that she could alleviate the burden of the family. However, her proposal was declined by the cult organization. She was told that she was not allowed to take care of her family since she had already been a member of the “God’s family”. She was also instructed to leave her family to “Almighty God” so that on one hand, her father would be naturally recovered with the blessing of “Almighty God”, and on the other hand, she could continue to “do her duty” wholeheartedly for “Almighty God”.
One month later, her father gradually recovered after receiving proper medical treatment. However, Wang Xiaoqing mistook it for the result of her praying to “Almighty God”, believing that it was “Almighty God” that made her father fully recovered. Afterwards, she was more convinced in her belief in “Almighty God” than before.
In July 2017, Wang Xiaoqing was elected as a leader of the church and she was in charge of receiving notes of instructions from the higher level of the organization and arranging believers to learn the so-called “doctrine”, to pray and to sing divine songs. In June 2019, many followers in her area were arrested by police. Instead of taking it as a wake-up call, she was very proud to be promoted as “leader of the community”. Only three months later, on September 10, she and dozens of other followers were also arrested by the police.
Getting rid of the shackles of the evil cult, she becomes a capable deprogramming expert
Even when in custody, Wang Xiaoqing was still quite obsessed with “Almighty God”, so she once led cult followers to sing cult songs together. After the detention, she and other 20 cult followers were arranged to take the deprogramming course.
As proceeding with the deprogramming course, she gradually came to realize the anti-human and anti-social nature of the “Almighty God” which was fully exposed by the course. Wang Xiaoqing’s so-called “belief” started to collapse. She shed tears of regret when thinking she had devoted all her energy, money and hearts to a cult while totally neglecting her family and her only child.
After coming to her sense, Wang Xiaoqing resolutely broke away with the “Almighty God” cult.
In order to save more followers from deceptions of the “Almighty God” cult, Wang Xiaoqing repeatedly requested to be a deprogramming assistant and was finally approved. Wang Xiaoqing said that, as a former follower who fell deep into the clutches the cult, she wanted to be able to assist the government as a deprogramming worker in saving those cult followers from the “Almighty God” cult by using her own experience as an example so that they could have their normal lives back again.
