The fourth Cross-Straits Forum opened yesterday at the International Exhibition Center of Xiamen, focusing on the themes of expanding grassroots exchanges, strengthening cross-Straits cooperation and promoting mutual development.
Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Hong Xiuzhu, Vice Chairman of the Kuomintang, attended the opening ceremony.
After Jia declared the official opening of the forum, a grand gala with performers from the mainland and Taiwan put on a show.
This year, the forum has attracted Taiwanese of all levels to Xiamen. The weeklong forum includes 29 activities such as promotional conferences, a Straits Youth Forum and a Straits Marriage and Family Forum.
