Chen Guo as well as her mother Hao Huijun, two Falun Gong practitioners who have participated in the Tian'anmen Square self-immolation incident in 2001 have good psychic state although their complete recovery still needs time. Chen Guo and her mother now receive further treatment in a hospital in Kaifeng of Henan Province.

About their treatment, Mr. Cui, vice president of the hospital who has rich experience in treating burns, said that both Chen and Hao were seriously burnt. According to him, Chen Guo was diagnosed with burns over 80 percent of her body, half of which were third-degree burns. Hao Huijun had burns over 90 percent of her body, but few of which were third-degree or worse. Therefore it was quite difficult to cure them. At present, their skin infection is fully under control, however as most of their skin has lost normal functions such as breathing and metabolizing, they will meet great trouble in their future life.

Cui said, "In order to take good care of them, the hospital has set up a special panel to treat them and has arranged four mid-aged nurses to take care of them. Since both Chen and Hao have not recovered their arthrosis function, they can only lie in the bed. Given that Chen Guo has lost her hands, the hospital is considering cut an opening to restore some basic functions of the hands."

According to Mr. Cui, Chen Guo can see with her left eye, her hearing is ok, her thinking is agile and more importantly she is placid and peaceful in her mind.

About their future life, Mr. Cui indicated that the government was very concerned of their life, but the detailed arrangement for them was to be determined on their recovering. He said that the hospital would try to give them the best treatment. About the possibility for Chen Guo to have cosmetic surgery, Mr. Cui said that there was no such technology in Kaifeng and she may go to Beijing or other big cities for such surgery.
