The day of September 2, 2011 is the first anniversary of my mother’s passing away. Early in the day, when I came with my brother and sister to Mother's grave burning incense for worship, we were all depressed and sad.

My mother, Wang Aihuan, born in July 1950, was an ordinary housewife in Yangcun Town, Nanle County, Henan Province. Mother was of little education, but as honest, kind, industrious, and virtuous as most rural women in China. Mother and Father endured all kinds of hardships to bring us up. Mother became disease-ridden as a result of her long time labor. However, in order to save money, she rarely went to hospital, but bore all sufferings in silence.

One day in July, 1998, Yan Ruiqin, one of our neighbors, dropped over to our house and told my mother that somebody taught Falun Gong in the neighboring village, and as long as one learned to practice it, all his/her diseases would be cured and the health would be promoted, without taking medicines and injections. She also said one of her relatives who suffered from chronic rheumatism had been cured by practicing the “magic” Gong.

What Yan said tempted Mother who decided to have a try for it and went along with Yan several times to attend a course held in a neighboring village. Before long she was attracted by the ideas of eliminating disease and improving health and Consummation preached by Falun Gong, and began to practice it.

In order to have her disease cured as soon as possible by practicing Falun Gong, my mother persisted in her practice at a certain practicing spot every day. After a period of time, largely because of psychological effects, my mother felt much better. Consequently she not only persisted in her practice, but also began to publicize Falun Gong. While Mother was illiterate, she still bought a lot of books and video materials concerning Falun Gong, and brought home all her friends and relatives she could come into contact. She let them follow her in practicing, asked her fellow practitioners who were literate to read Zhuan Falun on the spot, and also asked fellow practitioners to enroll more Falun Gong  members.

Mother was commended for her active performance by her instructor who said that as long as she persisted, she could become a disciple of true cultivation in a few months. Upon hearing that, Mother became so committed that she continued her practicing at home after she came back from the practicing spots, that she had no time for housework and did not work on farmland anymore. She lost the desire for food and drink, and even wanted to live apart with my father, which made us feel ridiculous.

A few months later, my mother became a completely different person, haggard and eccentric, so we tried to persuade her to stop believing in Falun Gong and her cultivation. Mother was very angry and said: “The Master has installed a wheel down in my stomach, and I’m a Dafa disciple now. How can I stop practicing?”

In July 1999, Falun Gong was outlawed by the Government, but Mother did not believe the fact. Li Hongzhi instigated his disciples to go out to “tell the truth". After plotting for a few nights, Mother and her fellow practitioners decided to go to Beijing, but finally were sent back before they arrived in Beijing. After our persuasion, Mother agreed for the moment that she would give up practice. My mother came back home and quieted down. Every now and then she did farm work and chore. We all felt gratified to see her change.

But not long afterwards, Yan Ruiqin secretly told my mother that “the assistant from the general assistance center” would come to see practitioners. Mother didn’t respond to the news, but in the evening she found an excuse and followed Yan out. She returned with a large parcel in which there were portraits of Li Hongzhi, small cards, and hand bills. At the sight of those things, I said angrily to my mother: “How can you go back to the old road and bring these things home?” Mother didn't explain at all, but took a portrait of Li Hongzhi out from the bag and pasted it on the wall in the middle of the room. She knelt down on her knees and then went out carrying the parcel.

The very next day, Falun Gong leaflets were found pasted everywhere on the gates and walls of the whole village, which set the villagers to wag their tongues. I knew that my mother had done it and got furious. I hurried back home and asked why she did all this. Mother told me coldly: “I posted them along with several fellow practitioners, because the master said this is the time for a test, and a genuine cultivator, a disciple of the Master, should stand up right now, following the master’s instructions for an early Consummation.

From then on, Mother resumed her practice at home.

One day, my mother fainted after she locked herself up in a room practicing Falun Gong for two days without eating anything. I called a 120 ambulance to carry her to the hospital. The doctor told us that my mother was in severe malnutrition and mild depression, and should be hospitalized for observation. When Mother woke up to find herself lying in a sick bed, she hit me for the first time, rebuked me for “disobedience” to her will and increasing her karma, and she pulled out the needle and prepared to leave. We tried to stop her, asked her to take a good treatment in hospital, but my mother hit her head against the wall like crazy. At sight of this, the doctor suggested we take her back home until she became emotionally stable, and told us to pay attention to her diet and rest. After returning home, my mother still persisted in practicing Falun Gong, and wouldn’t go back to hospital no matter how hard we tried to persuade.

In the autumn of 2008, my mother started to cough badly, with streaks of blood in sputum, and wasted away. I asked her to go to hospital, but she said: “What I am undergoing now is eliminating karma. My Gong powers will protect me from illness. Don’t worry about me.”

Two months later, Mother was coughing day and night, with more blood in the phlegm. As we took her to the hospital for an examination by force, only to find she had lung cancer. The doctor suggested treatment in hospital, but Mother didn't believe at all she had cancer, yelling that we were doing harm to her. Since she did not cooperate with the hospital, the doctors had to prescribe some medicine for conservative treatment and let her rest at home.

In order to make Mother take the medicine, I crushed the pills and stealthily put them in her meal, but she saw through it and emptied all her meal. And in the end she simply refused to eat. We knelt down on our knees and begged her to take medicine, but she was completely indifferent, grunting “the Master’s law bodies will protect me. Leave me alone!” She threatened that if we pushed her further, she would rather die.

The illness grew worse and cancer cells swallowed Mother’s emaciated body bit by bit. In the greatest pain, Mother tightly pressed her hands against the chest, stared at the portrait of Li Hongzhi, and kept reciting his scriptures. She clung to the faith that enduring the pain was eliminating karma, and was willing to accept the torture.

On September 2, 2010, Mother's illness rapidly deteriorated, and died in hospital after a failed emergency treatment, at the age of 60. The night before her passing away, Mother muttered away to herself, “Master, when can I get the Consummation?” Then Mother left this world with her “Consummation dream” that would never come true.
