According to a report by Sin Chew Daily, a court in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia held a court session on June 7, 2012, and sentenced Wu Ruirong, a Falun Gong follower, to one-year-imprisonment for he was convicted of kicking with left leg a policeman who was trying to stop him from distributing leaflets.
The verdict pointed out that Wu Ruirong, who was distributing Falun Gong leaflets in the Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur at about 9:20am on July 13, 2011, tried to obstruct police from carrying out their duties by kicking a policeman with left leg. During the court session, a total of seven witnesses were summoned to the court.
A deputy public prosecutor said during the court session that the defendant Wu Ruirong, as a foreigner living in Malaysia, should respect laws in the country. To protect the public interest, the defendant should be given equal punishment, the prosecutor added.
Wu Ruirong asked for probation on the grounds that he felt regret for his behaviors and that he had a family to provide for. The court approved his request, but required him to hand in 10, 000 Ringgits for bail. Wu Ruirong handed in 10, 000 Ringgits and waited for appeal.
In accordance with Article 353 of the Criminal Code, the defendant, if he was convicted, may be sentenced to maximum imprisonment of two years, or a fine or the both,.
According to relevant reports, Wu Ruirong was a Falun Gong follower. This 59-year-old man was a bus driver working for China Southern Airlines Hunan Branch. His wife Lei Yingqun was also a Falun Gong follower who served as an accountant in a metal material company in Hengyang city, Hunan province. The couple entered Malaysia illegally in 2010. At about 10am on May 15, 2010, Wu Ruirong was arrested when he was distributing Falun Gong leaflets in Merdeka Square and was detained for six days. At 9:20 on July 13, 2011, he came to the square again to distribute leaflets on Falun Gong. As a result, he was arrested and detained for 14 days. On July 27, Wu Ruirong was charged for attacking police. He kicked a policeman with left leg since he was dissatisfied with the policeman who tried to stop him from distributing leaflets on Falun Gong. Having carried out investigation and gathered evidences, the court issued the order for arrest on October 10, 2011, and decided to open a court session on June 7, 2012 to handle this case.
