As reported Jennifer Lopez visited Ellen DeGeneres while under the weather to promote American Idol and her upcoming tenth studio album. However, the one thing that hasn’t spread like wildfire but should be, is Lopez opening up about how she saved Leah Remini from Scientology. The singer helped the actress and former Dancing With the Stars contestant in making a hard decision to leave Scientology.
The American Idol judge, who was once accused of being a scientology herself with then husband Marc Anthony. Although she didn’t address that allegation she did open up to Ellen DeGeneres about supporting Leah Remini. During Friday’s show Lopez said:
“Yeah. It was a tough moment for her. It’s all she knew her whole life. When you’re raised a certain way and you’re around people for a long time, whatever that is, it’s going to be hard. We’re good friends.”
As previously reported, Leah Remini has been very open about one friend that she lost due to her departure from the Church of Scientology, and that’s former celebrity friend Kirstie Alley, who is a firm believer and member of the Church of Scientology. Late last year Alley hit back calling Remini a “bigot.”
During an interview with Howard Stern, the Cheers star elaborated on what she thinks of Leah leaving Scientology:
“The thing about me is, I don’t care what religion you are. If someone is attacking your religion, I will have your back, and I will defend you. I think that is the most repulsive thing a person can do, attack another person’s faith. Because a faith is what you look to to have hope, and is what you look to to help other people. I just think it’s really wrong.”
Then Alley explained why she decided to excommunicate:
“I have blocked her on Twitter because she’s a bigot. If someone was really out there [saying negative things about your religion], would they be your friend?”
As for Remini’s friendship with Jennifer Lopez, it’s been reported that Lopez is her “spiritual adviser.” According to the initial report, “Remini has reclaimed her spirituality, and, at the suggestion of her best friend Jennifer Lopez, begun listening to affirmation tapes.”
According to the article Remini said of her special friendship with Jennifer Lopez:
“Jennifer made special rings for all the women in her life that say, ‘I Love Me,’ and I’ve really come to realize you have to love yourself before you can expect someone else to. You have to learn to believe you deserve love. And I’m getting there. I’m starting to believe it.”
Looks like in addition to everything else she does, Jennifer Lopez is a pretty stellar friend.
