Based on the publicity in traditional media, progress has been made in Xixiang County, Shanxi Province, in exploring new ways of implementing an “internet+” publicity model to advocate and increase coverage and awareness of anti-cult work.

Based on using various online media platforms and extensions including websites, microblogs, wechat and mobile newspapers, Xixiang County has actively built the "Internet +" publicity model. The county has introduced the "Internet + government network," a multi-dimensional anti-cult publicity network aimed at users of the internet through government official websites, law and political websites and the new Shaanxi network; The "Internet + mobile newspaper" has also been launched. Through the "Xixiang daily" and other mobile news sources, anti-cult knowledge and project updates are spread to over 20,000 party members and officials in the county, raising awareness for anti-cult education among grass-root level party officials and the general public. The “Wechat column” has also been started, which utilizes Wechat links and anti-cult columns to ensure anti-cult information is updated regularly, intensifying anti-cult education. “Internet + community” sends links of anti-cult information and relevant practices to the relatives or responsible persons of those people who are involved in cults. Thus, one to one education has been enhanced.

In the first half of the year, the county has held a total number of 112 publicity activities, has set up 156 publicity columns, has posted and broadcast more than 620 slogans, displayed more than 60 anti-cult exhibition boards, issued a total number of over 80,000 anti-cult materials including leaflets detailing rewards for tip-offs, publicity brochures and washbasins, shopping bags, aprons and several other types of items. They have also gathered a total collection of 100 outstanding handwritten newspaper artiles from schools and 50 outstanding anti-cult works.

With the widespread dissemination of "Internet +", such mobile news is easy to read, and is has drawn wide attention in the community. “Now we can receive anti-cult information on the phone, which has done us a great favor in helping cult worshippers," a community secretary commented; Left-behind child (children of migrant workers are often left with other family members while their parents work in other provinces) Li Xiaoqian in Baimianxia town said, "I promise I will never believe in a cult, and I will also remind my father who is now working in the city to be on the alert against cults ……."
